Zara's Turkish Cafè — Restaurant in North Island

Zara’s Turkish Café in Upper Hutt is a fantastic spot for authentic, flavourful Turkish food served with warmth and generosity. The portions are huge and great value for money, with standout dishes like the chicken and lamb, falafel kebabs etc. Everything tastes homemade and is homemade and well-seasoned, and the menu caters well to both meat lovers and vegetarians. The service is fast, friendly, and accommodating, making it a great place for a casual lunch or relaxed dinner. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, always providing prompt service with a smile, and they maintain excellent hygiene standards, making it a comfortable and pleasant place to dine.

Along with usual doner kebabs and Iskenders, Zara's sell pizzas, desserts, coffee and tea, vegetarian options, and open faced burgers served with oven baked Turkish bread - these I can't wait to try.

Update: the open-faced burger was served on a standard burger bun, not Turkish bread as advertised. The patties are thin and don't look like anything special. Very disappointing 👎 still for $18, the meal (see photo) is still a good deal.

Unlike other Turkish kebab cafés in Wellington, Zara's large doner kebab is actually a large and worth the $13 price. Everything else on the menu is $20 or less.

Incredibly poor meal for the high cost of $17.50. No longer do the chips come covered in Sauce, but come in tiny containers on the side. Plus the most pathetic slice of tomato I’ve ever seen. Not even turkish bread as advertised, just stale supermarket buns. Chicken was dry and had been pressed so flat that it hardly resembled meat. Bitterly disappointed as this used to be my favourite meal from here, I have photos of what it used like which is nothing compared to what it is now. Don’t bother spending your money here, you’re better off going to the lovely Thai shop down the road that you actually get decent value for money for. Won’t be...
