This was a bad over priced restaurant. It’s not worth going to and there are much better restaurants in Dunedin.
Their food was awful, some dishes were over salty, hardly any meat and all vegetable. And one meal was meant to be a sizzling hot plate and the plate wasn’t sizzling and barely warm.
We asked for no rice on any dish (this is a way they charge you more for less food) as we wanted to order a fried rice for the table, when paying they charged us extra for not having rice!
They didn’t care about the feedback when given and said you should have told us sooner, which we did complain to one waitress and she ignored our request and acted like she couldn’t speak English.
The meals didn’t arrive together and the last meal arrived 10 mins after the first, it was so bad. So food was cold.
Even one waitress split her entire drink tray onto the customer next to us and the poor lady had beer spilt all over her personal items and clothes. Ruining her night.
What’s even worse is they sent an automated email about an hour after the meal asking for feedback then before I could give feedback they sent another email saying our original booking was cancelled. How dishonest is that! They new they provided a bad experience and wanted to avoid honest bad feedback!

Read moreI don’t normally write restaurant reviews but had on for this one. We visited Dunedin last weekend and had this placed recommended to us.
Fantastic food and drink and not expensive - but the service, in 30 years of dining out I struggle to remember service as shocking as this lot.
From the minute we walked in, until we left - every inch of our service was slow and like pulling teeth. NOTHING happened unless we asked for it – the staff having very little clue as to what is occurring around them, they almost walking around in circles - staff stood at the bar fluffing with glasses whilst we just sat next to them waiting to be asked for a drink – then had to ask for a refill - the place wasn't busy but we waited ages to be seated – we had to ask for menus – we had to ask for food orders – the food was very slow to come out - we had to ask for cutlery – then we had to ask for our table to be cleared – again we had to ask for another drink, when that came they don’t think to take the empties away.
The universal staff shortage is real, as this place had clearly just pulled any kid they could find off the street and threw a uniform on them.
I was thinking that maybe the service part was an option in this place that actually needed to be...
Read moreI booked for a table for 6 people to dine in. I dropped my guests off at Buddha Stix and went to find a park. When I walked into the restaurant and witnessed my guests were treated rudely by the staff member (Asian male) at the first greeting. They have asked him if we can have a normal sit down rather than high bar stool dinner table because the guests have issues with mobility and they can’t get up to high chairs. He completely ignored the request and walked away from us . He left the guests in the hanging and waiting for a response! I’ve not seen such a rude response in nz restaurant. This is utterly disgusting service for our first visit to Buddha Stix. There was another female employee who tried to help us, he (Male staff) told her to go away..
Not that we were left hanging in the beginning of trying to get seated for our dinner, we felt so poorly treated and disrespected by staffs. The feedback is the owner of Buddha Stix really needs to provide better training for hospitality staffs. We are very disappointed with this visit and we walked out of the restaurant and feeling humiliated by your staffs. I have not seen this in upper class restaurant for my 25...
