Horrific experience at Blog Bar in Dunedin, and I strongly advise steering well clear of this so-called "Irish bar." The place was shockingly dirty, with a grimy atmosphere that made me question how it’s still operating. The staff were unengaged, standing around, holding there side, as if there in pain? and making me feel like a nuisance just for ordering a drink. Far from the warm Irish hospitality you’d expect, it’s clear why any self-respecting Irish person would and clearly avoid this place.

Dunedin is brimming with fantastic bars and restaurants, so there’s no reason to waste your money here. On top of the filth and poor service, I couldn’t help but wonder about the lack of adherence to basic health & safety and how they got this place over the line with alcohol license, this place feels like it’s begging to be condemned. Save yourself the very disappointment and spend your time and money elsewhere in this were people appreciates you. Also, just seen the reply to the below...

I don't mind people liking their sport, but when a customer asks you to turn the volume down on the TV, I think you should. Most people present were not even watching it, just continuing their conversations louder over the TV. Nobody even applauded when Otego (home team) made a try!! The food was ordinary so it did not make up for the ridiculously loud volume of a match that, in the end, I think my husband & I were the only ones even paying attention to. They didn't even mute the adds during half time. It made for an awful atmosphere. We would have stayed for the band, but the TV remained too loud & played to a disinterested audience. Don't go, there are better places to go and still...

Food was horrible. Ordered beefburger and chips. Chips were so pickled with salt I couldn't eat them. The burger itself was burned black and was so hard you could use it as a Frisbee. The bun was sickening, it felt a slimy soft on one side and rock hard on the other that I felt it was heated in the microwave and left in too long. They were short staffed we were told, not that should have made a difference. but definitely get rid of the chef, he or she obviously don't take pride in what they cook and serve up to their customers. I wouldn't like to see that kitchen which was upstairs, and the food was brought down by a girl who said she didn't even work there?? Avoid it...

Worst restaurant I have ever been to. We waited 70 minutes for our food, while people who came in later than us already got theirs, then we got served the wrong food (it was meant for another couple). When we finally got our food, it was not worth the wait. We ordered the steak medium, it was well done. So well done that it was hard to get my knife to cut it. It was also quite dry. The fries that came with it were put under the meat, so they became soppy. The salat was huge, a whole lot of leaves put together with some oil on top of it. We expected much more for 32 nzd and 75 minutes of wait time. We were very disappointed. Wouldn't recommend this bar/restaurant for dinner.

This place used to be great, a change of ownership is definitely noticeable. Terrible service at the bar, a member of our group won a voucher via Facebook that they wouldn’t acknowledge without the physical voucher, yet they never provided her with the voucher. Won’t be rushing back UPDATE….. don’t appreciate being called a liar. The bar staff were very rude trying to ask about the voucher we won, and apparently the physical voucher is being dropped off tomorrow to use. The place is a shambles. Also what is going on in the men’s toilets. Broken sink they are trying to repair? Absolute disgrace

A lovely dining experience twas had...I tried my first Guinness, and I enjoyed it very much... nice taste and very easy to drink. We shared entrees of calamari, and stuffed mushrooms... very generous portions. I had corn, pumpkin and bacon fritter stack which was huge, and very filling. We also had the Surf n Turf, another massive meal, steak (which we couldn't finish), mussels, prawns, and chips. Unfortunately no room for dessert. We waddled out, bellies full and content. Very happy chappies, cheers 😁
