Modaks Espresso — Restaurant in South Island

Thought we'd go out for a nice brunch on good Friday. I would not recommend coming here. Firstly there was a wait for food over an hour. When the food eventually came out, it was staggered so there was a 10 minute wait between each meal so by the time I got my food my friends had already finished. They kept serving people dispite the place being clearly over croweded and full which only delayed the food further. I made the mistake of ordering the veg out vegan. Not only was the toast burnt the avocado was under ripe and hard. My friend ordered the omelette which again came out on burnt toast as did my other friend who ordered the eggs benne. Seriously, how hard is it to toast toast! A very disappointing start to the long weekend and we will definatly not be returning. This is a nice cafe with a great atmosphere. My table ordered the pancakes and the Shakshouka for our brunch meal, additionally we ordered a gingerbread latte and a cappuccino. I had the pancakes which were good but the toffee sauce was rather light and wasn't spread evenly throughout the pancakes, as some layers had a proper amount on only half of the pancake, this was odd. I personally did not try the Shakshouka but apparently it was good, the bread on the side of it was great tho, it was nice and warm. Love their ambience! Super well thought out spacing, warm and toasty feel with awesome interior decor, real neat esthetic. They also have a small outdoor seating arrangement for fresh air on those chilly mornings with a cuppa. I tried their famous peanut butter brownie and was happy with the taste! The brownie was soft to bite into, slightly crumbly and the peanut butter meshed well with the chocolate brownie section. It wasn't overly sweet and the portion size was decent for the price.
