The Rope and Twine — Restaurant in South Island

The guy at the motel gave me a 15% discount card. Went there. Oh you can't use that tonight. They advertised steak night at $25 but it was actually $27. I ordered a steak. I played the pokies for 15 minutes as there was reasonable numbers and knew it would be a little while. But when i went out to the car for something i saw the four kitchen staff having "smoko" Never a good sign. I waited another 25 minutes for the steak and salad. I ordered medium. It was red and dripping blood. I sent it back. Another 20 minutes to get a very chewy Porterhouse. I complained. It was not a $27 meal. I asked to see the owner. What a surprise, hes not there. I mentioned the 4 kitchen staff outside at " smoko ". The duty manager argued it had to have alot of fat on it to cook properly. I did get a complimentary Sundae. When i went to pay the duty manager was defensive and had a go at me for mentioning the chefs? and they were entitled to a break and it was a hot night etc. As i walked out surprise, surprise, it was "smoko" time again and the same 4 staff outside. I said "see" and pointed to them. Another bar staff came out and followed me to the car muttering they're having a break blah, blah, blah. Really?? Another " smoko " ?? For how long this time? Oh, that's right the Owner is away!! Nice. Wonder what Gordon Ramsay would of said? Or a food critic doing a inspection? I see other posts have criticised waiting times, cold steaks and mediocre food. New ownership? Really? Observe your kitchen staff when they think your not...

Disgusting service went at lunchtime today ordered two fish and chip meals and tenders for my 4yo Grandaughter.The bar guy a foreigner was rude pointing us to a corner table right in the door way...i commented we had a pram and a child he pointed in the direction just take anyone...the food took ages and my grandaughter was beside herself...i didnt get my meal he didnt order it so instead i sat there watching my husband and grandaughter eating. I went to the bar guy..tld him his service was disgusting that i had been going into that pub most of my life for lunch and had never struck that.And then i told him to go back too his own country.I was offered no apologies so wouldnt recommend anyone go there the food burnt and over cooked and the service .. SHOCKING...and the price or the standard of the food .....thank u to the waitress who seeing how stressed my grandaughter was for offering a goodie bag too her...

Very Very disappointed, booked a birthday diner for 5 at 7.00 pm, mains arrived ok after ordering, table slow to be cleared (only 3 of the the 5 plates removed), waited about 20 minutes before we went to ask for service so we could have the rest of the plates cleared and order dessert to be told the kitchen was closed now, asked for a coffee but the coffee machine was also switched off so couldn't get that either. this is at 8.30.p.m. The conversation about our disappointment withthe staff seemed like the staff were only interested in what they could do for us to not write a review on our experience. (as thats what were were asked). Asked for the owners details so I could call and was told they didn't have them, gave them my card to give to the owner to call us but they didn't want to take it to pass on, but I insisted it get passed on.
