Not impressed - Iām quite disappointed instead. I ordered and fully paid for a low stock item online at 10am on a weekday with āpick up in 2 hoursā. When by 5pm (7 hours later) I had not heard anything from Bunnings Dunedin, I went to the store to ask about my order as I really needed the product fast. First I was told that the person who picks these orders is away on leave. Then a young staff member claimed they āspent 2 hours looking for the item, but couldnāt find it in the storeā. Uh-huh⦠sure⦠what did they do for the other 5 hours since I paid for and placed my order? I fully understand that there can be errors in stock numbers. But 7 hours later and after allegedly realising that they couldnāt find the product within the store⦠still no contact to the customer (me) to let me know so I could have gone elsewhere? When I wanted a refund since they did not have the product I paid for, I was told to go look at similar type products at the back of the store because they needed someone else to come in and approve the refund. So I went there. And found the most fabulous elderly staff member who looked for the item, and then checked online and told me that Bunnings Chch airport had several and they could get it shipped to me. Front desk ācustomer serviceā did not check or offer me this at all at any stage. But I went back to the front desk, and was told my order had been refunded. I asked where the confirmation about that was; in my email or in a printed refund receipt? They didnāt have either of those for me. āThe refund should be in your account in 3-4 days.ā Thanks a bunch - wasted my time and now my money is in limbo. I bought a shower rail slider to replace my old one and brought the old part to ensure I got the right size. The staff recommended a replacement that turned out to be the wrong size. When I returned the same day to exchange it, I didnāt bring the original blister packaging because it was impossible to reseal.
At 4.30 PM on June 30, 2024, I spoke to the manager with the part and my receipt. They refused to help, insisting I needed the original packaging. I explained: Their staff recommended the wrong item. The item was not fit for purpose, and according to the NZ Consumer Guarantees Act, they should replace it unconditionally. The blister pack was destroyed upon opening. I had already driven 30 km round trip and didnāt want to do it again just for packaging. There was no visible notice in-store or on the receipt about requiring original packaging.
Despite all this, they repeatedly told me, āYou have to bring the packaging; otherwise, we canāt do anything.ā This inflexible and dismissive attitude is unacceptable. My experience with staff has been varied however, depends who you get. Some have been very friendly but....... more often than not the customer service when asking for assistance on finding a product has been terrible and that ruined the approachability.
I has asked a staff if they has individual packets of dowel pegs instead of the meter long strip's, they told me they didn't sell those but I looked on the website and they had them stocked at isle 19. What is the point of having floor staff if we can just look everything up on the website?? I found another staffs attitude unhelpful, as if they didn't want to be working or assisting me with finding a product. I too have worked in customer service and to see the unenthusiasm with assisting customers is just poor and taints the perception of Bunnings as being a DIY friendly place.
I find the store and products amazing and will definitely return for all my needs however I will more likely be walking around looking at the website than to approach the staff as they can be...
