I have been going to coffee pen for a number of years and love the food and coffee. Unfortunately I witnessed an incident at the cafe which means I will never be returning again. I arrived to the cafe and walked passed a group of people sitting outside sharing some cakes amoung the group. While I was waiting in line to order, one of the people from the group came inside to fill up their drink bottle at the water station. The person on the counter stopped them from doing this saying that since they had not ordered food they could not just come inside and take the water. The person on the counter insisted that the customer pay for the water (which to me looked like tap water). They tried to explain that they were part of a group that had ordered food but this was dismissed. They were charged $30 for this and were clearly shaken by the confrontation. I was tempted to leave but instead stayed to order a coffee to take away. I was not able to enjoy the taste of the coffee unfortunately. As a side note, if I were a cafe owner, I would do everything I can to discourage people from using single use plastic items so I think it's great that people can fill their water bottles and I would want to make this widely available. I'm surprised at the rudeness and lack of...

Given all the great reviews, I was excited to try this place but was disappointed in the service.

I stood reading the menu and was about to order when a regular comes up to the counter. The barista ignores me, asks if the regular is ready to order then proceeds to take his order first, not checking if I'm ready even though I was first in line.

I ordered to eat in but asked for coffee in takeaway cups and received a curt "no since you're eating here". I explained nicely that we were keen to eat quickly as we had to be somewhere else soon after and the barista stares at me for a solid 5 to 10 seconds and just shrugs and says no to the takeaway cups. No smile, no hint of trying to explain, just a rude experience.

I get that service staff aren't paid for emotional labour but seeing how friendly he was to the person before me, I'm not entirely sure why the change in attitude and I didn't see any reason for not showing a hint of kindness in comparison to the other patrons.

Food was decent, we ordered 2 sandwiches which were yum and a matcha cheesecake that was a bit on the sweet side with not much...

Normal coffee, was a somewhat regular but I won't be going back. Staff rudely told me and my partner to leave - after we both bought coffees - because we bought a pie in a bag with us to the table. We were walking along - already bought the pie - and decided in spur of the moment to pop in to get coffee and sit. So I guess in future, throw anything you just bought away before stepping into this place or eat it very fast. Alternatively you could go to any other coffee shop where people are reasonable and are happy to take customers of the street who dont meal plan their cafe visits.

Edit in response - You didn't ask us to stop, you told not one but both of us to leave. We both ordered coffee, only my partner paid. We were never going to order food from you as we only stopped in by chance. So either A. accept sometimes people will already have things on them when they decide to purchase more from you or B. Don't and send away paying customers to satisfy your pride. I have paid for at least 10 coffees in the past as I work down the road. I won't be again - I was paying customer. Neither will...

One of our local cafes. Tucked away in a cute little corner. Good food, okay coffee. I really wanted to like the place (was recommended by a barista friend + my partner's cousin seems to be an acquaintance of Yas'), and I do like their food, but have encountered some attitude from him on a few visits (once personally, another time with one of my friends I was dining with); surprisingly not the most hospitable given Japanese-owned/run + hospo businesses usually kinder/more pleasant. Just a heads up for others not to bother him with non-coffee related stuff (e.g., asking for a takeaway box for leftovers) to avoid souring your visit. A bit off-putting. Fumi and rest of the staff are quite pleasant.

Today its our first time went here for our coffee and small bites. The coffee are delicious, I got mocha & my partner love his americano. We also trued their dessert & food, I choose basque cheese cake which is my fav and their cheese cake is yum even little bit too sweet for my taste. Their spinach something (not sure whats the name since my partner was the one who order it 😂) also delicious! The service also lovely & friendly! I really love the ambience there, its nice hidden coffee gems in the city.. Will def come back to explore more whats on their menu tho! 💖

The place isn’t very big, but the atmosphere is great and makes you feel relaxed. There aren’t many food options, but everything tastes good and the portions are just right. The filling of the Ruben Sandwich could be enhanced with sauerkraut and pickled onions to enrich the flavor. Overall, the taste of all the dishes is quite mild, so you might need to add some salt yourself. However, on the other hand, light food is healthier. The owner and staff are very friendly, and the coffee is excellent.
