Finally got the chance to dine at Lao Bai Jia! Ordered a salty milk tea and a sweet milk tea, wasn't quite prepared for the salty twist in the milk tea, but hey, it was an interesting experience! We also ordered Xinjiang Fried Laghman, the signature Guo You Rou Ban Mian, and some lamb skewers. Portions were generous, thankfully we didn't over-order; three of us left absolutely stuffed. The noodles were delightfully chewy, and the flavors of the side dishes complemented them perfectly. Can't wait for the Albany branch to have shorter queues so we can make this a regular spot to hang out! The lamb skewers were straightforward and delicious! If only they could open a branch in the west Auckland that would be perfect! 😄

At this point, I've tried their "6 Hours Slow-Braised Beef Ramen" and "Dry Noodles with Beef, Eggplant, and Onion". For the Beef Ramen, it was quite special. The meat was really tender. The taste of the curry blended well with the beef and the ramen. As for the Beef Eggplant Dry Noodles, I liked their mixture of beef and eggplant. It reminds me of my favorite eggplant dish back home. Dining in was okay. Spoons and water are available free for diners. If you're not sure, as I was when I came here for the first time, just ask the staff. They were friendly and helpful. The place was not that crowded when I visited, but even when it's crowded, the experience should still be pleasant.

Beef noodle soup that did not have anything special, quite salty in flavour. However it did have very quick service and large portions. The beef noodle soup seemed like the signature dish here so I went for it. The noodles did seem hand pulled given some inconsistencies in width. The noodles itself was the highlight in the dish. The soup base was a let down, as it was very salty for my personal taste. Leaving a slight numb feeling on my tongue afterwards. The beef slices were hard to bite off as the meat was cut horizontally and the meat was really long. So I opted to have the meat in one bite. It wasn't clear when i entered as to how to order. Watching other patreons you had to walk up to order, but this wasn't stated anywhere. The atmosphere was clean and a very large area inside. Despite the busy time, it didn't feel crowded which was a positive. Personally not a noodle soup shop for me!

FanTAStic, Tasty, Well presented, Delicious. OK, enough superlatives - you get my drift - but I could rave about this place for a long time. I so love it when the quality of food takes prevalence over ambiance. Sure, having both is even better but usually comes with a hefty price tag. So, even though the furniture is a mixture of bamboo and pine, the decoration is hotch potch, a rally bike blocked the pathway to the counter AND we had no idea where the cutlery was hiding, once the meal was served, we forgot all about that. (and the bike and biker disappeared for a delivery) The beef ramen was HEAVENLY and the portions Generous. What a great find. We'll be back, often!

The restaurant is very simple but the food is superb. When I watch some Chinese food shows, the atmosphere of this restaurant is like the ones in those shows. However, this one is clean, spacious and beautiful in its simplicity. Food servings are large and the prices are very reasonable. The hand-pulled noodles taste really different and have a different texture than commercial ones. Broth is also delicious. We tried the beef and vegetarian ones and both tasted delicious. This place is also Halal certified so our Muslim brothers and sisters can enjoy a bowl of beef ramen. The staff feel welcoming and are friendly.

As the weather starts to get colder, we’ve been searching for hot comfort dishes that warms the soul. We took a chance on this place claiming to be #1 and … rightfully so! I’d say we are now addicted to the lamb skewers and the 6-hours slow braised beef ramen. I had to grab a loyalty card right after tasting the food the first time - I knew we will be back and we will be here often! I am writing this review after being here multiple times and they are very consistent. You have to be in early (specially weekends) to avoid disappointment when the skewers are all sold out. Thank you No. 1 Lanzhou Ramen!!!
