Read moreI've been to the sky tower several times over the years, most recently in April 2023. Today's visit was fine but started off badly when we were dropped off at the lookout on level 53 instead of the main observation deck. Along with many other people we were very confused at being taken to the cafe level which has very limited and awkward space for viewing. There were several other people coming out of the lift after us really confused at where they were and then trying to figure out how to get to where we knew we should be on level 51. The cafe staff were unhelpful when we asked about how we get to level 51. They just said "this is the lookout" apparently clueless at understanding what the customer was asking. So then we noticed the exit path on the floor so we followed it which led us past the sky jump and to a staff member by the steep internal stairwell directing everyone to use them to go down 2 floors!! Absolutely nuts!! There was no way I was carrying my heavy toddler down there, or letting my six year old walk down - let alone letting my sister walk down there with her dodgy hip. So I asked if there was a lift we could use and this young miserable looking staff member begrudgingly let us through the barrier rope to access a lift. Other customers followed us. I let that staff member know I wasn't happy and she muttered under her breath something like she was just doing her job....except no one we sought help from was doing a good job helping people. I don't know if they're plain stupid or if the language barrier is also a problem....something another patron commented to me on. I also don't know if it was tactic to get people to spend money at the cafe or a way of spreading people out on different floors but either way it sucks. I hate to think non-Aucklanders, or worse international tourists are being given this experience and being taken to the cafe level first when it's the last floor you want to get the view from. You can say you have 3 viewing floors but, let's be honest, you only need to go to level 53 if you want to go to the cafe or get an ice cream. On another note it really sucked that there was only one half of the sky slide ride operating....I appreciate that things break down but over the years it just feels like the experience up the tower is really degraded and worn out, especially compared to the polish of everything else on the ground floor and...
Read moreI went here with my family during winter school holiday, on a weekday to avoid the crowd. We arrived early, a little confused on how to get in because apparently, you have to enter a lobby and go down using the escalator to reach the entrance.
I bought the tickets there. There are self-service ticket machines, but then you still have to wait in line to have the staff confirm your tickets. We didn't wait too long though. Perhaps going there on a weekday was the right choice.
When we went in, we were asked to pose for a family photo, which we can collect at the gift shop on our way out. After the photoshoot, which is a short 2-pose photoshoot, we went straight to the elevator to go to the Main Observation Level on level 51.
Next, we went up to level 60, the Sky Deck. This area is smaller than the Main Observation Level, without that much difference in terms of the 360° view. It is still around 40 meters higher, so going there for the first time was still worth it.
The last area we visited was on level 53, The Lookout. They setup a nice place to sit and relax there, but we decided to just look around and move along. You can have a look at the people preparing for Sky jump on this level.
And... That's it. Doesn't seem that much fun, does it? Well, going there once was worth it even if we didn't do any of the attractions. They have a Dragon Trainer Quest attractions for kids, but you have to purchase the tickets at least 1 day before you come, which we didn't do.
Overall, it was still a fun experience even though we only look around. The view was amazing because you can see all over Auckland and even beyond the sea. Reminds you of how small you are compared to the size of this world.
Last but not least, the gift shop. We bought some souvenirs there. We also decided to get a printed photo of the one that we took at the entrance. It was a nice book with 4 photos of our selection for the price of $55. A bit expensive, but it was a beautiful memory keeper.
P.S.: Check for free car park promotion. We got it, so we can park in Sky City Parking without having to worry about spending a lot of time at the Sky Tower. No worry parking is the best thing in the city, if...
