Finally found an opportunity to go to Prefab earlier this week, and it was well worth the wait. It’s a shame they’re only open during the week, as I would love to have Sunday brunch here in the future. From the moment we walked in, the service provided by staff was incredibly compassionate, and we were immediately seated in a corner that was a literal sun trap! The cafe itself is humungous and the interior + exterior decor is beautiful. There were many people virtually working inside which was honestly incredibly inspiring. Seeing all these professional people all concentrated and focused has motivated me to return to have a productive study session lol.
In regard to the food, I began with an iced long black with trim milk which was absolutely delicious! Potentially the best coffee I have had all year. I have officially converted to Acme coffee. I ordered the Acme granola with greek yoghurt (Zany Zeus I believe) and FRESH BERRIES. I was absolutely overjoyed to see both fresh raspberries and blackberries because being blessed with an opportunity to eat these little delicacies only occurs on very special occasions and is lowkey equivalent to winning the lotto in my opinion. If you know you know. The granola itself was divine and very unique compared to others around. Rather than just being oat or nut/grain based, it had typical oat clusters, sliced almonds, seeds, bran flakes, wheat puffs and cranberries. I wouldn’t say it’s one of the top three best granola in Wellington, but it was still a 10/10 and would recommend. Mum ordered the avocado and tomato on rye bread with marinated feta and balsamic glaze. I personally didn’t try it as those flavours are not my cuppa tea, however she said the rye was super seedy and fresh, and all the various elements of the dish collaborated perfectly.
Overall, I would highly recommend Prefab for a cheeky weekday brunch or snack. As the space is so large, it wasn’t even that loud despite it being somewhat busy which meant for a pleasant dining experience. The prices are average to other eateries in Wellington (granola was $17 and avo toast was $21) however the quality and quantity of the food and service makes it worth...
Read moreBig, open industrial style eclectic eatery that reminds me a lot of a New York warehouse loft style with lots of light streaming in from windows all around. The owners have created a most wonderful inner city oasis for those who like a busy environment rich in aromas from expresso and pour plunge coffee blended roasted and caramelised onsite, from the ACME bread range naturally fermented and baked throughout the day and from the amazingly fresh, delicious seasonal breakfast and lunch plates served to regulars, office workers, city visitors and brunchers sitting at a nice variety of indoor and outdoor tables and counter tops.
Prefab are open 7:00AM-3:30PM M-F and 8:00AM-3:00PM Saturday, no reservations are taken but there is never too much of a wait to be seated - in the times I have been to Prefab with or without a group of friends seating has been immediately available. My favourite is Grilled Halloumi, Peach Butter, Avocado, Basil Pesto, Focaccia & Bacon for lunch and the "to-die" for Eggs Benedict served with fresh spinach and potato gratin for my Saturday start.
Staff are well trained, polite, efficient and friendly. Most organisations are a reflection of the top and with the hospitality genius owners (founders of the iconic Caffe L'affare in nearby College Street) onsite on-the floor running the business of the 180 seat eatery, the 120 seat hall to the rear set up for inner city weddings, celebrations and corporate events, the onsite coffee roastery, the onsite bakery (which supplies fresh and warm bread to local retailers e.g. Moore Wilsons) or their ACME shop business, maintaining quality and style it is not hard to see why this eatery has become one of Wellington's much-loved eating establishments.
I think Prefab stands for Pretty Fabulous - you can't go wrong with this wonderful and...
Read moreWe ordered toast with avocado, tomatoes, bacon and halloumi. The toast was burnt (I know that can be individual but to be it was burnt) lemon was try. You know when they get this dry layer when they have been out for a long time? I’m not saying that they tasted bad but it would be nice to get a fresh lemon when you decide to go to a restaurant. The bacon was not crispy. It was like they made the bacon yesterday and heated it up today. But the halloumi and avocado was good!! We had to ask for butter for the toast but no problem getting it tho so that’s good. We did get told that we could not order eggs after 11:30 but the person behind us ordered (after us) toast with eggs etc. so that was confusing and sad. Would’ve been nice with some eggs :))) the waitress apologized when we asked her tho. Also, I’m on a mission to find the best hot chocolate in Wellington and this was a 2/5. Yea I could have asked for a more rich chocolate but oh well. It is what it is. The waitresses were friendly tho!! 😊 can’t always be perfect. Maybe we picked the wrong dish on the menu.
edit BUT once we got up to pay the lady came up to us and told us that the food was on her. This was SO nice of her because we were a little disappointed with the food. She said that this is not how she wants the restaurant to be presented. So she apologized once again and said that she hopes we will come back. And because of her, we will for sure come back and give it another chance.
So five starts for the service. People/restaurants can make mistakes but it’s about how you...
