I am usually very generous with my reviews, but I just can not recommend this bakery.
The smokey brisket pie I got was 90% watery gravy, I literally counted three pieces of meat in it. It was so full of sloppy gravy that it literally fell apart the second I picked it up. I am a cook and I was sure the "smokey" is just added flavouring from a bottle, nothing to do with a nice peice of smoked brisket.
The main reason for this poor review is that five minutes after I ate it, I had an upset tummy which lasted for two days. Pretty inconvenient on a long road trip having to make frequent trips to the toilet!
My partner had a steak and cheese pie, which she said was okay and she didn't feel sick at all, so it's something to do with the smokey brisket. The sausage roll was dry and bland.
Two pies and a sausage roll came to $19. In Greymouth.. Those are Auckland prices. I'm happy to pay good money for a good pie, but this was one of the worst I've had in a long time.
To their credit, the ladies were friendly enough and they had free tomato sauce.
Later in the day I spoke to a local who told me that I shouldn't have gone to this bakery, because they have a reputation for making people sick.. she...
Read moreI’ve never written a bad review, but sadly wanted to put this out hoping they take note. We were passing through town a couple of weeks ago and ordered some food for the drive. While the lamington was fine and I have no complaints on it, the takeout sandwiches were awful. Our group of six all tried three different types and they were all musty, tasteless and left us with a few upset stomachs. There was definitely something wrong with them. I don’t know if they are made in house or by contract, but best to order something else until they can...
Read moreA neat bakery with history! Blanchfield's has been running for a long time. Known best to me for serving dressed pies (If you have no idea what a dressed pie is, don't worry I didn't either). I'm not sure the dressed pie should exist, seeing as it's beetroot slices and peas on a pie.
Pros:
Staff were friendly Place was spotless Unique items in the cabinet
Cons:
West Coast hours (for some reason Greymouth shuts down in the afternoon) Unique items...
