La Taqueria — Restaurant in Bergen

Pretty mixed signals from this restaurant/bar.

Could have been a good place, but they have too many faults.

The first thing that meets you is a pretty small room with a big bar and hardly any tables. These are down stairs. The floor was dirty and sticky.

Quite a nice waiter and chef. The menu mainly has tacos, but they did not have the sliders/burgers on the menu in stock. The most expensive taco is stated to have "beef". We asked the waiter if it was proper beef or minced meat, and she said beef. In stead it turned out to be just plain, cheap mince meat. What a swizz... Good tasting tacos, but you expect proper meat. The nacho chips were of the cheapest kind. For four people we only got one small paper pot of salsa.

We tried to order a mexican beer... not in stock. So I asked for a Margarita which was on the menu, and the most common Mexican drink... they didn't have the ingredients... (!!). It was a Friday afternoon.

As you understand, having one "fault" is not a big deal, but when the place seems dirty, looks more like a bar, does not have basic dishes, not the few beers on the list, not even able to make a Margarita... sadly that just does not make a good impression. And there are so many other good Mexican restaurants around to show them how to run theirs. Try Tijuana in Oslo if you want the best Mexican experience. Way...

We went to the taco buffet, it was busy, I booked a table in advance and we got a really bad table next to the restroom and under a coat rack with limited space. Our server was very confused, it felt like it was her first day on the job. We ordered a beer from the menu but the beer selection was limited so we had to go with a corona. When we ordered our food they didn't have chorizo ​​tacos which was a disappointment, we waited at least 50 minutes for our first round of tacos. While we were waiting another server came over to ask if we needed anything else and she apologized for the delay and offered us free drinks. The food arrived and was really good, the tacos were loaded with meat and other toppings, my favorite was the one with the beef. On our last order we ordered more tacos and beers, our original server did everything else, but our beers didn't arrive for about 10 minutes (at that point there was only one other table of 4 on our floor). I believe our experience was ruined by the server and the lack of food and drinks on the menu, if we had had a different server for the entire night I would have most likely given it 4 stars. I will probably try it...

We had a pleasant time here, the server spoke English and the menus were in English. I recommend the pollo loco quesadilla as the chicken is tastefully marinated. A couple of things stood out to me though. The habanero sauce was 40kr and was disappointing in taste (didn’t taste like much) and in heat (was somewhat hot but probably the least spicy habanero salsa I’ve had in Bergen), in fairness I never asked if habanero salsa was spicy so maybe that wasn’t the intention. I do think ordering habanero salsa should mean it’s going to be spicy but maybe it was a fluke. The chips were my favorite part and wished I got more honestly. I ordered the special al pastor burrito, mostly fine I do wish the bacon was more crispy but that is no fault to this burrito it’s just my personal preference. Overall the prices were slightly above what I’m comfortable paying for what I got, i’d like to also mention that I do not drink alcohol, but there are plenty of different choices here and it looks like that is the intended occasion so if you’re into that this would be...
