Terrible hygiene, terrible service, and a disappointing experience.
I ordered moules frites, which unfortunately came with hair in it. This turned into a terrible experience due to the handling of the situation. When I noticed the hair, I asked for help. The waitress looked at the plate, took it without saying anything, and returned a few minutes later, telling me I would receive a 25% discount. I was more concerned about whether they had simply removed the hair and returned the same plate.
Another waitress then told me that they had switched my plate with another customer’s order(?) This made me uneasy, as she seemed unsure. I expressed my doubts, and she assured me that she was going to eat my previous plate - I had no idea what is going on anymore unfortunately. She then said they like to offer me a 10% discount instead. At this point, the discount didn't matter as much as my concern about the situation's handling but I also wondered why 25% dropped to 10%. I don’t care about it but my worries about situation’s handling increased.
She kept asking if I had taken a bite from the dish, because this is how she was told. I replied that I had not touched the mussels. However, I did recall eating one of the french fries with some mayo, which seemed to be in same shape as in the previous plate in this supposedly new plate. I mean the mayo seemed as dipped - which I did one time before noticing the hair in the main dish. Given how quickly the new plate arrived, I doubted the plate had been replaced.
The waitress took about 6-7 minutes to check with the kitchen, during which my dish was getting colder, and my suspicions grew. I ended up paying for a half-drunk Pepsi (which was extremely sugary compared to usual) and returned the dish, opting to grab a takeaway burger from another place.
This whole experience left me very concerned about the restaurant's hygiene and service. Perhaps they thought that I am a tourist and I will never come back anyways. I am recommending my friends not to go there, also would like to warn anyone who considers this place. I...
Read moreBooked a table for mine and my boyfriend's anniversary last week, as Harbour Cafe is where we first ate when I came to Norway and when we turned up we were told the booking was never made. They begrudgingly seated us and from then on we were treated like we were a hassle. Had to ask twice for a drink we ordered (the place was really quiet at the time). Not a single vegetarian dish on the menu either, which is excusable to an extent but the only option I was given when I pushed for it was a few items from their unavailable tapas menu, all of which were deep fried (patatas bravas, cheese balls and onion rings), all of which I can enjoy on occasion but not all at once. Really disappointed with my experience. My first time there was super pleasant, 2 years ago but I'm not sure I'd return or recommend the place to anyone. I also work in the service industry here in Bergen and basic customer service shouldn't be too much to expect, especially when...
Read moreIt's all about the scampi in Bryggen. It topped every fish dish we ordered.
The Seafood Pasta (186 NOK) was ok with garlic steamed scampi and #mussels in a tomato sauce.
The Seafood Salad (184 NOK) was a little better with mussels, scampi, avocado and chives. I liked that it was fresh and light but again, it was nothing to write home about.
The Salmon with Pesto (265 NOK) with saffron butter sauce and ratatouille was my favorite of the three. The salmon was moist. The mashed potatoes were flavourful, buttery and well spiced. But the ratatouille stole the show. Loved the mix of flavours in this peasant's dish.
And of course, I had to try the Akvavit. I normally don't drink hard liquor but this went down so super easy. Light with a slight flavour of dill. Excellent!
I was a bit disappointed that the scampi was rather flavourless given that it should be fresh in Scandinavian countries. I would probably pass on...
