We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. I follow a lot of pages about Norway as my husband and I are moving there next year, a video about Bergen fish soup came up and it featured Bryggeloftet, we knew we had to book in yo give it a try. The booking was simple as the site is in Norwegian or English, a reminder came through and instructions were easy (if you’ve booked, head straight upstairs). We were shown to our table really quickly and were greeted by our waitress, an older lady who was SO lovely, she asked where we were from and shared fond memories of her love for the Shetland Islands. I know this will sound a little hypocritical - I’m against whale hunting and don’t feel it should still be something countries partake in, but when in another country my husband and I want to try traditional and cultural foods to feel more involved and submerged in to the heritage of the country, so we shared the Smoked Whale (Lettrøkt Hval) - with spring onion and Cumberland sauce. It was very tasty and tender but I would not have it again, simply due to the hunting. For main we both had to have the Traditional Bergen Fish Soup, of course.. Served with sourdough bread and some sort of thin cracker bread. The soup was rich, creamy and velvety, with a salty kick and lots of soft flaky fish, tender mussels and prawns. The BEST fish soup we’ve ever tasted. We both had a Hansa Beer to drink and you’re provided with a jug of water for the table. The atmosphere was wonderful, the old style is a wonder, everywhere you look there is something interesting, toilets very clean and well looked after and plenty of locals enjoying themselves with tourists alike. Unfortunately we didn’t get the name of our amazing waitress - the receipt says User ID - 2222. Our reservation was at 14:00 on 14:00 July 3rd, Table 22. You were a completely joy, thank you for looking after us and sharing your joy of the...
Read moreIf you find yourself in Bergen, a visit to Bruggeloftet Restaurant is an absolute must! Nestled in the heart of the city, this gem not only serves delicious food but also offers an unforgettable dining experience thanks to their exceptional staff and atmosphere. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance that set the tone for the evening. However, what truly stole the show was our waiter, who seemed to possess more of a stand-up comedian's flair than your typical waiter. His wit and charm were infectious, making the entire dining experience light-hearted and memorable. He had the perfect balance of professionalism and humor, ensuring that we felt not just like customers, but special guests. Now, let’s talk about the food! The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the special reindeer meat. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The unique preparation allowed the rich, gamey flavors to shine, and it paired exquisitely with the carefully curated sides. For anyone visiting Norway, this dish is a must-try and truly showcases regional cuisine at its best. In addition to the standout reindeer meat, we also enjoyed a selection of locally sourced appetizers and desserts that complemented our main course beautifully. Each dish reflected the restaurant's commitment to high-quality ingredients and detail in preparation. Overall, Bruggeloftet is a culinary treasure in Bergen. Whether you’re seeking a relaxed dinner, a special occasion, or simply a delightful evening out, this restaurant offers an experience that delights all the senses. With excellent service from a staff member who feels more like a friend than a waiter, and the opportunity to savor the exquisite reindeer meat, you will leave with both a full stomach and a smile on your face. Highly...
Read moreWhen I arrived at the restaurant at 8:30pm it was still busy trying to seat guests ahead of me. I waited at the host stand for a quite some time without being acknowledge with a simple “hi we’ll be with you in a moment” from any of the workers that past by several times. When I did finally get helped, David went to seat me and I asked him if I could sit at the window in the far left of the front of the restaurant as it was a small space and I’m only one. He said no that was only for a table of four, mind you there was no longer a long line after me so I thought it was odd. He sat me at a table that could seat at least four to which I asked why he would sit me at such a large table versus the small one by the window. He was short and rude in his reply and said where he was sitting me was for a table of two. Perhaps that it customary for where I was seated but the family next to me had five (four of which sat in the booth like mine) so it made no sense..The table I wanted to sit at by the window was left empty for at least 20 mins and then a party of two was sat there! Not only did David lie but he was rude with the way he addressed it. Next, I ordered the halibut with brown butter sauce asparagus and capers. When it came out it had green peas under it, this was not mentioned in the English description on the menu. I’m highly allergic to green peas and despite showing David and another female worker they offered no apology but said you’re going to have to wait for your waiter. When my waiter did come back he was very kind and apologetic and when I mentioned the seating situation he apologized and asked if I wanted to email instead of review to which I declined. The food had a nice taste but the halibut was very dry. Overall a bad experience and ok food. I would not recommend, especially to single...
