No respect for waiting line, and inability from employees to impose some order and sense on it. What happened to me this last Sunday was very uncomfortable and so I need to share it. I went with my mother, wife and 1-year old baby to Creperie de Mari to have a nice time while eating a nice crepe. When we got there, it was full (very common on sundays) with only one small table with one chair which was obviously not enough for all of us. Therefore, we sat at the entrance where there is something similar to a waiting area. After about 20 minutes of waiting, another family comes in (50-year old couple together with two 20'ish year old couple) and just stands in front of us. As soon as a second table was free they jumped on to it and took over both table asking one of the waiters to put them together so they could all fit. Still caught from surprise, I went to the waiters and stated the obvious: "we were here first and waiting for 30 minutes, so I think we should have the table". What came next really caught me by surprise: "Sorry, but we are not responsible for getting the tables!" Before arguing this answer, I then went to the family that jumped in front of us and told them the same: "Sorry, but we were here first and you saw us waiting when you got in, so I think we should have the table". Looks like that day was surprise day: "No no, there was one table free (the one with only one chair...) and you didn't take it so we didn't know you were waiting (must say there was a slight smile on his face...or maybe this is just how I remember it now...)". I replied: "Well, as you saw and still can see it, we are four people in total with a 1-year old baby and therefore, one small table with one chair is clearly not enough, which is also the reason why you couldn't fit in that table either". No progress on achieving good sense in either this family or the waiters...to keep this story short!
Of course, we left! Disrespect is something that should be intolerable anywhere and it looked that there was no peaceful way of solving this situation, and I still wanted to keep respectful myself, regardless the situation.
I must say I have been here before and in general, the service and food is good, but this situation should not happen because they just give bad reputation!
Please find a solution to this...a simple sign "please wait here for your table" is enough for people to understand they must or at least should wait in line.
Been going here for 4 years now, but I think this is enough for me stopping going and not recommend this...
Read moreExquisite and flavour, combined with a stellar menu where you can get just the right amount. Not to mention the updated and tasty combinations featuring mushrooms as well! I've visited Crêperie de Mari at least three times at year, every year, with some summers and years leading to visits in the tenths as well. No meals have let me down, nor service.
However, the coffee of the day is now 34,-, which is 6,- more than the Americano. This without the coffee being any special blend, and the former free refills of the regular filter coffee are gone, replaced with the price of 12,-. This in itself is so-and-so, but the coffee cups have shrunk to a ridiculous price. You pay more for filter coffee, and you get it in a smaller cup than is standard.
I've had some great times here, and maybe it's just not as good of a deal to do free refills anymore. Nonetheless, it changes the character of the restaurant from something distinct, to something that's just doing what...
Read moreYou. Must. Eat. These. Crepes. We stopped here three out of the four days we were in Oslo. These are the most delicious treats. Nicoletta and the other staff were so welcoming and patient with us clueless and exhausted travelers as we figured it out. I stuck with the Crêpe du Chef. Since it has fresh strawberries and banana along with Nutella & whipped cream it felt like a bit of a fruity salad treat (that's my logic and I'm sticking with it!), my sons got the Nutella crêpe with added whipped cream, because we don't get decadent treats like this in normal life. The homemade lemonade is delicious. We ordered pink lemonade the first day. Turns out it's actually a fizzy rose flavored drink. Not bad, just different and unexpected as rose is not a normal flavor in American food or drinks. If we ever make it back to Oslo, I'm coming here as soon...
