I had arrived on a Sunday and tried to arrive right as they opened and they said they’d open at 11am but I was only able to get in at around 11:20-11:25 so I was a bit disappointed for that. I had gotten the most popular which was waffles with sour cream, jam, and brown cheese and it was even better than I was expecting. When I took my first bite with all the toppings I immediately thought “Now I know why everyone only says good things about this!”.
The staff were friendly and the food was prepared pretty quickly but there’s just seems to be 1 lady working so if there’s a line you might have to wait to put your order in while she makes other people’s orders. The store is quite small with the main being the preparing food area, then near the door is like 4-6 tall chairs but outside there’s also 2 tables with a booth seating area as well.
They also have different toppings such as sugar, butter, whipped cream, and nugatti. There’s also a whole other list of toppings like caramel sauce, apple sauce, freezedried raspberries and more. You can also add an ice cream scoop or only get an ice cream scoop/s by itself without putting it on the waffel. You can also choose a gluten free or vegan coconut waffel as well. You can also pay with...
Read moreUnfortunately, I was greeted by pouring rain in Oslo (which lasted the entire day). This also meant that I wanted a sweet treat, so I made my way quickly to a waffle place posted by multiple travel blogs. Haralds Vaffel offers Norwegian style waffle with their signature being served with brown cheese, romme (sour cream) and jam (69NOK). From my understanding, brown cheese is a distinctly Norwegian dairy product made of whey, which can be controversial, however I actually enjoy the caramel-like taste. I also found it interesting that they told us to eat it handheld like a taco. All in all, it was a good experience, taste wise nothing mind blowing but a good flavour combination for sure. I would recommend coming here because I love the overall Grünerløkka neighbourhood feel, with many cute coffee shops, vintage stores, and...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of trying the classic Norwegian vaffel at Haralds Vaffel, and it did not disappoint! I opted for three toppings: strawberry jam, Nugatti (Norwegian chocolate spread), and brown cheese. The combination was incredible, with the sweet, fruity jam balancing perfectly with the rich Nugatti and the unique, caramel-like flavor of the traditional brown cheese. The waffle itself was soft yet crispy around the edges, making for a delightful dessert experience.
The flavor combination truly felt like an authentic Norwegian treat. The brown cheese added a distinct, slightly savory element that really brought out the best of the other sweet toppings. For anyone wanting a genuine taste of Norway, I highly recommend stopping by Haralds Vaffel and trying this...
