Check the food before eating it!!
The place : It's just what it's supposed to be without feeling overwhelmingly welcome. But the only waitress there and the cook are real italians (fighting in the kitchen and arguing loud just like in Italy...). The noise of the staff running in and out of the kitchen to the bar is disturbing when you came there to eat. In that situation, customers are a bit silent and distracted, but also the staff themselves.
The service : All this above bring confusion with order, again, again and again in the same order. Example 2 days ago : 2 persons. RAVIOLI PORCINI with Primitivo Wine RIGATONI ALLA BARTINLI (chicken) with Primitivo Wine
After 20min the meals arrive :
RAVIOLI PORCINI RIGATONI SALSICCIA CLASSICA
When told the second dish is incorrect, the waitress asked if we were sure. When confirmed the stays on the table getting cold, while we are told we'll then have to wait long for the RIGATONI ALLA BARTINLI to be served.
After 20min the RIGATONI ALLA BARTINLI is served, but since some mistrust arose, it takes 5 seconds to see the chicken is missing in the meal. When told the chicken is missing, the waitress asked again if we were sure. So we had to show in details that there were no chicken at all. We are told we'll then have to wait long again for the RIGATONI ALLA BARTINLI with chicken to be served. By that time the first meal RAVIOLI PORCINI is dead cold as the other guest waited patiently for me to get my meal, to eat together right?
We ordered more Primitivo while waiting, and the wine tasted differently from the 2 first glasses served.
At last the RIGATONI ALLA BARTINLI with chicken is served. Fabulous taste, incredibly good like the RAVIOLI PORCINI, but this one was cold when eaten.
No sort of apology was given, only a few words saying the espressos were on the house.
The food was amazing, you almost can forgive the place, the staff and the service for not taking these simple tasks. Fine tuning this palce would make them one of the...
Read moreOur tour guide, a local Norwegian in his early 30s, recommended this Italian restaurant during our walking tour, noting its good reputation. The restaurant had a 4.2 Google rating—decent but not exceptional. Based on the guide’s recommendation, our group of four booked a 7 p.m. reservation. All the restaurant we were trying to get into were booked!
When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty, which surprised us, though we thought perhaps Norwegians dine later than Americans. Our server was friendly and explained the menu adequately. We each ordered a glass of wine, choosing different varieties. The wines were satisfactory, though unfamiliar to us. We ordered a few starters, salads, pasta, and meat dishes. The server offered focaccia bread for an extra charge, which we accepted. However, the focaccia arrived lukewarm and dry. We asked for it to be warmed further, but it didn’t seem any hotter when returned. We also requested olive oil to dip the bread so that I can be less dry, but the tiny portion provided was insufficient. The rolled eggplant appetizer was delicious and a highlight. The salad was acceptable, but the beef carpaccio lacked flavor and needed extra seasoning to be enjoyable. For entrées, we ordered - a salmon dish, pasta with mushroom sauce, and clam linguini. The salmon portion was large but bland. The mushroom pasta was very good, but the clam linguini was tasteless. In summary, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. Most dishes lacked flavor, with only a few exceptions. The empty dining room at 7 p.m. on a Saturday should have been a red flag. By the time we left, only three tables were occupied. Unfortunately, this was a restaueant disappointing choice for our trip to Oslo which we...
Read moreAs a chef with experience in both Italian cuisine and Michelin-starred kitchens, I must say this was completely unacceptable.
The food took far too long to arrive. The plating was uninspired, with messy edges and cold plates. The risotto was overcooked, watery, and completely lacked flavor—it was clearly not made à la minute. It was missing essential elements like salt, chili, garlic, and olive oil.
We were not served any bread or olive oil to start, which should be standard in an Italian restaurant.
The ambiance was nice, and the music was good, although it was a bit cold due to the draft from the door—understandable as we were seated closest to it.
There were only eight guests in the restaurant, all seated at tables for two, yet the service was inattentive. One server was on their phone and forgot to take away our menus after we ordered.
There were no soft drinks listed on the menu. They claim to be an Italian restaurant, yet there was no pizza—only a large selection of pastas. I ordered the salsiccia pasta, which was served with sauce smeared around the edges, on a cold plate. While the pasta was al dente, it lacked any real flavor. The meat was tough and unappetizing. We weren't even given a spoon for the pasta or risotto and had to ask for one.
This restaurant needs a complete overhaul. When asked how the food was and why we didn’t enjoy it, the waitress was kind and offered to bring a new dish. However, I didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes for another tasteless plate. She mentioned the chef is from Italy, but based on the food, that was hard to believe.
I also doubt the pasta water was properly salted. Overall, this experience was far below...
