This restaurant used to be great; now it is just ok. We were a party of 11 for dinner last night. We had a reservation and had pre-ordered our meals a day in advance, and yet, both the appetizers and main courses took way too long to arrive at the table. It is obvious that the restaurant was operating beyond capacity. The weather was great and the restaurant was full. The service was not impressive at all. Our waitress appeared tired and could barely force a smile. When we asked for more bread, which was eaten rapidly because of the delay with the food, we got one basket for 11 people. The serving staff dropped drinking glasses 4 times during our meal, which shattered on the floor right next to our table. No apologies were made. The main courses were hit and miss. The tomahawk steak was mostly bone and fat, so it was not enough to serve two, as stated. The pasta with clams and seafood was disappointing. The broth was merely the water the mussels were simmered in, and the seafood itself was overcooked and chewy. The halibut was rather good, as was the whole grilled fish (seabass). The forno oven pizza was ok, but the crust was too soggy from the sauce. The ambience and location of Skur 33 are still excellent, yet it is hard to recommend the...
Read moreAtmosphere nice, friendly service. The food started out very good as well. Unfortunately at the main dish, everything went wrong. I ordered pasta dish with half a (very small) lobster. The tiny amount of lobster tail which was maybe two small bites size had a very strong ammonia smell that I noticed after the first bite. After returning the dish the waiter/ chef denied and claimed it was all good. They made me a new one anyways. This one also clearly had an ammonia smell. I wasn‘t delusional, my partner confirmed and lobster is one of my favorite dishes, hell, I have even caught some myself so I know what a fresh lobster tastes and smells like. This one smelled like ammonia which means it was dead too long before cooking. Not fresh. The waiter / kitchen denied it again. They did try to come with a solution and I didn’t have to pay for it. Unfortunately I lost my appetite after the lobster incident.
This situation could have been handled a bit better. The service team fid try to accommodate me and I didnt have to pay for the rotting lobster. They did make me feel like the idiot as they kept convincing me that nothing was wrong with...
Read moreItalian living in Oslo here. I believe this is the best Italian restaurant in town. I've tried most and Skur 33 is a span above the others. Prices are slightly higher, but this is more than compensated by the increased quality. You pay 10% more to get a 50% better dish. That's a good deal.
Food is excellent, service is good, and the atmosphere of the place is nice, especially the seats outside.
What I would evaluate a little more negatively is the possibility of parking a car around the restaurant, which is truly very difficult. And a very minor point, but there are several appetizers which are meat-based, but then first courses are fish-based. Italians tend to follow a meat-meat-meat or fish-fish-fish pattern when ordering, so if you take a meat appetizer, you are then "forced" to either deviate from tradition or take a pizza. But this is truly a very minor point.
I very much recommend the place. It's great! And the desserts...
