We were in Oslo last week and wanted to try the local seafood. We had two restaurants in mind and decided to go to Solsiden. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a nice young lady and asked her for a table for 5. She said, hold on and that she would be right back. Less than 30 seconds later, a skinny man in all black with a thin mustache comes up to the front. He looks at me, no greeting, no smile, and then with this look and a roll of his head of what do you want, said, "yes?" I told him, the other female was already helping us. He then said, what do you want. I proceeded to tell him we were wanting a table for 5. He then said, we have no table when clearly there were tables open and no one else waiting. My husband then said, well she told us to wait. He replies with, "She is a nobody here. Just a waitress. She knows nothing. We cannot seat you."
We travel to a foreign country only to be met with racism! Asian group walks in and automatically turns us away. Thankfully this was our only bad experience in Norway.
All I have to say to that man is you did us a favor because we ended up at Lofoten and had the best meal and service ever! Spent over a $1,000 on our bill and didn't care. And in the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, "Big......
Read moreVery happy with the seafood platter. It’s got everything you’d want - they’re fresh and the sauces that went with the platter were also very good. The wine list is extensive and I took their recommendation. I thought the pairing worked perfectly. I also really appreciated that they managed to accommodate me as I had no reservation (good to book in advance if going as a group). Initially I was told that I can have the table for 45 minutes and I took it. However, I wanted to try the seafood platter and I was told that it is huge and I’d need more time to finish it and enjoy the meal. I kindly asked if they can do something about it and I was so happy that they managed to work around it and extend my stay. They also reminded me again in the middle of my meal ( as I may have seemed rushing; I was enjoying my seafood) that there is no need to stress as they’ve taken cared of it. Much appreciated!! Great service and one of the best seafood I’ve tried. Highly recommended when...
Read moreThis is probably one of the finest seafood restaurants I’ve visited in the past five years.
This restaurant came recommended by a Norwegian friend. My children and I enjoyed it so much, that we came a second time.
Call and make a reservation. They reserve quickly.
The Somaliërs directed me to wines to pair with each dish — perfectly I may add.
The fish is fresh and I believe locally caught daily.
The menu selection is minimal — which to me, is the sign of a fine restaurant (the kitchen staff focus on 8-10 fishes, rather than 30). And each dish is a work of art and a TRUE culinary experience.
This is an experience. And you should allow at least two hours for it.
I highly recommend this restaurant...
