From the moment we sat down at Himalayan Oven, we felt genuinely welcomed—not just by the cozy atmosphere, but by the exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. The service throughout our visit was warm, kind, and sincere, setting the tone for a truly enjoyable evening.
We began the meal with papadoms and mint-yogurt sauce, and they were a perfect introduction. Light, crisp, and delicately spiced, the papadoms paired beautifully with the refreshing mintyoghurt sauce, whetting our appetite for what was to come.
We shared two starters as a family, and both were absolute standouts. The Vegetable Samosa had a golden, flaky crust with a warm, comforting filling of potato, peas, and spices—classic, but executed perfectly. Memorable were also the Kathmandu Steam Momos: delicate chicken dumplings steamed to juicy perfection, served with a rich, spicy dipping sauce that added just the right amount of heat. They brought a lovely taste of Nepal that felt both authentic and refined.
For our main courses, we adults decided to share—something we were very glad we did, as both dishes were outstanding in their own way. The Dal Bhat Chicken was a generous, beautifully balanced plate: tender chicken curry, mild and earthy lentil soup (dal), fresh sautéed vegetables, salad, and fragrant basmati rice. It was nourishing, soulful, and full of subtle flavor contrasts. The Luxury Oven Lamb was the bolder of the two—a rich, spiced dish where the lamb melted in the mouth, paired with roasted potatoes, vegetables, and a deliciously creamy sauce. The flavors were deep, warming, and layered without being overwhelming.
We also shared naan and garlic naan on the side—both soft, fresh, and perfect for scooping up every last bit of sauce. And of course, more papadoms—we couldn’t resist!
Our young son had the Butter Chicken from the kids’ menu, and to quote him: “This is the best food I’ve had in a long time!” He ate every bite. It was creamy, mild, and clearly made with the same attention to flavor as the adult version.
To the food, we enjoyed a glass of the Zinor Pinot Grigio—a crisp, aromatic white wine with soft floral, herbaceaus and citrus notes. It was an excellent pairing with the momos and balanced the spice and richness of the mains beautifully. Refreshing without being bland, it complemented the entire meal.
From start to finish, Himalayan Oven delivered a warm, delicious, and memorable experience. The food is clearly made with love and skill, in a way that feels both homely and elevated. The service was just as impressive—friendly, and genuinely attentive from beginning to end. Perfect for fine dining, perfect for sharing, perfect for family dining, and truly...

Himalayan Oven? More like Himalayan Heaven!
If you’ve come to Trondheim pulled by the allure of the upper realms of the far north & high mountains, what better cuisine to energize body, mind, & soul than that of the custodian culture of the Himalayas themselves.
Warm up in the winter with a bowl of their Sherpa momos & a “Himalayan hug”—their Everest Basecamp cocktail is a Nepalese classic featuring honey, rum, & black pepper— along with the Lamb or Chicken (cooked to tender perfection) Tikki Massala (in a sauce spiced to a medium heat so as not to interfere with the vibrant complexity of the seasoning blend) which all comes over flawlessly steamed rice.
In the summer you can’t go wrong with a mango lassi and a ten-piece order of the steamed chicken momos (I like to eat them with the added crunch of the included shredded cabbage/carrot/cucumber garnish in the same bite with a generous spoonful of the dipping sauce). For your main may I recommend an order of the lamb biryani.
If you drink alcohol, go for the Gurkha beer. It’s quite light & reminded our table of other southeast asian favorites like Hanoi Bía and Kiran. (We also found the Ghurka is a big enough bottle to be split between two lighter drinkers as it gives about 1.6 glass pours.)
When we come back to Trondheim we’re already excited to try more from the menu of which everything looked absolutely delicious.
Before you go, though, you must order a cup of the spiced Nepalese tea at the end of your meal for the full experience. May I recommend adding no more than a single lump of sugar to truly appreciate the divine flavors.
Thank you so so much to the wonderful staff, chefs, & servers who made this our favorite dining experience on our trip to Norway. We’ll be back as soon as...

It genuinely feels as though you are tucked away in a quiet corner of the Himalayan region.
The staff set the tone with their exceptional friendliness and warmth, welcoming us with genuine politeness. This hospitality was immediately showcased by their complimentary offerings: a generous serving of crispy papadum with a vibrant, refreshing dipping sauce (a wonderful start!) and a cup of their signature Nepali tea that carried a distinct, soothing herbal aroma.
