I had dinner with my wife in this restaurant yesterday night. I was attracted by the interior design and being it a French restaurant I thought I could have a good dinner. I was wrong. I am Italian and with my surprise I found pasta dishes too on the menu and when I saw ‘pasta fruits de mer’ made with handmade fresh pasta, I was happy: I was craving for it and looking forward to eating one of my favourite dishes, so I ordered it together a mix fresh salad with sun-dried tomatoes and a nice glass of white wine which was the best thing I ordered. The salad was okay but not really tasty. It came with a sauce to dress it but the lack of extra virgin olive oil made it mediocre although the vegetables were fresh. I am not sure if in the sauce they prepared there was extra virgin olive oil but if there was, it was not enough. Until that moment I was still enjoying my dinner, my disappointment came after that. Pasta arrived and with my surprise I saw grated cheese - I do not know what kind of cheese - and my mood changed. I thought: what kind of chef put cheese on pasta ai frutti di mare? Cheese do not match with seafood! Taste was awful. In my opinion it is really difficult to match cheese with fish. On top of that the pasta was watery… it is pasta not ramen so it must be dried before adding a sauce. There is a reason why we call it ‘pastasciutta’ (dry pasta). When the owner or chef came to my table to ask if everything was ok I told him: “actually no! Why you put cheese on my pasta, you’ve ruined it”. He was kind and apologetic and offered me to remake it but I told him it was not necessary. I did see him no more. Later I had a little accident and I broke by mistake the thin glass for wine I told the waitress and she told me she understood but if it will happen again they would have charged for it, I replied ’sure’. I asked the bill, a woman came to bring it to me not the waitress and with my surprise - again - I saw the broken glass price added on it. I thought: ‘really? Are you charging me for it?’ Then I asked if it was possible to pay by credit card and she told me ‘of course but we will add 5% on the total amount which it is too much from my point of view. Except few local businesses which do not add anything when you pay by cards, the majority will charge you 3.5% to the bill and I can understand it even though they should not charge you anything for paying with cards. I cannot talk about the other food they serve because I have not tried them, perhaps if you order French food is good. However, for my experience there, pasta is not his forte. Sorry,...
Read moreI would like to start by saying, I don’t normally write a review, however, the behavior/ attitude showed to us by the owner/ staff (she did not introduce herself) of Amihan was nothing but quite disappointing for a restaurant that is located near the heart of Coron.
My brother told the waiter, that he noticed and did not like the flavor of the burger he ordered due to an “odd and sour” taste of the meat of the burger. The waiter then asked what he would like to do? my brother responded, he’d like it replaced with another item. An action that was expected of any reputable restaurant.
However, what came next was nothing but surprising. A lady came out, in a very strong tone, asked what was wrong, stated that she tasted the meat and that there was nothing wrong with there food, claimed it may be the cheese and confirmed that they have “only fresh quality meat”.
She was not apologetic but instead was very defensive of her dish, both my partner and I had to speak on behalf of my brother since it was apparent that she would like to deny my brother to change his order. Later, she agreed to give my brother a replacement sandwich.
I wish it ended there, but later, she came out with one hand holding the sandwich and on the other hand a bowl of RAW pinking brown meat. After giving the sandwich, she showed us the meat then began poking on the raw meat multiple times and stated “we pride ourselves with quality meat”.
At this point there was no arguing or complaining with her since mind you, we were seated at the middle of a bar and was seated right next to the live band were people could see us.
It saddens me to see this, because I think it could have been handled in a calmer matter, but instead of us having a good time that night, it became such a horrible experience due to her being so aggressive towards us.
I never thought complaining for a better meal would ever back fire and be treated in such a degrading manner. If the owner/ staff cannot take any form of criticism, may I suggest a change in business venture were customer service is not required.
At the end, she asked us to pay for the burger and not the sandwich.
Not sure what that was about but the burger was P530.
You judge.
P.S. my brother had a LBM the following morning. We all ate the same food except for the...
Read moreMy favourite eatery in Coron without question, not to diminish the competition which is typically excellent. We went here 3 times on our last 3 days in town.
Initially we stumbled in after a failed hunt elsewhere for gelato. So glad we did. After trying gelato and mousse de chocolat, we had to come back for something savoury.
So next night we got here late (9PM) and received the best service we experienced in Coron. We were treated perfectly, with kindness and professionally. The server had excellent knowledge of the menu. Rib-eye steak, confit de porc, Salade Lyonnaise and the rillete were out of this world. Incredible.
The ingredients in everything seemed top quality. Steak was cooked medium and was super tender. We were offered the chance to choose which piece we wanted which was a lovely way to do it. All were beautifully marbled, well selected by the chef presumably. The price was based on the weight. We were beyond full by this point, so we skipped dessert even though I wanted more mousse.
Next day was our last in Coron so a snap decision to go back for lunch was made. So pleased we did. A lovely sausage and cheese galette, followed by more steak and frites, and we squeezed in dessert this time. The dessert taster selection (The Gourmand) was gelato, mousse de chocolat, crème brûlée, home made biscuits and a meringue. Oh My God what a treat!! I never like crème brûlée but now I’ve had my mind changed. Crispy sugar topping, beautiful custard. All served with a top drawer espresso. Perfect end to a perfect last meal in Coron.
Have I mentioned the accompanying items? Frites/fries/chips were crispy, fluffy, and a big potion. Potatoes with the confit de pork were outstanding. Pickles with the rillette were sweet and delicious.
Nothing bad about this place. It was cool, clean, light and airy, clean toilets (a novelty in Coron), all the staff were friendly and helpful. The owner/head chef took the time to see we liked everything. Prices were more than fair.
The 1* reviews are either misunderstandings or other businesses afraid of the competition. No way you could leave a 1* in good faith based on our experiences here.
You can access this bistro either from the street or at a servery at the back in Bam’s...
