Burning Sun Korean Restaurant & Bar El Nido – A Taste of Korea in Paradise

Nestled in the heart of El Nido, Burning Sun Korean Restaurant & Bar is a testament to how authentic flavors and affordability can coexist in perfect harmony. This unassuming eatery has quickly gained a reputation among both locals and travelers as the go-to spot for genuine Korean cuisine that doesn’t compromise on quality.

From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the aroma of sizzling meats and the warm hospitality of the staff. The restaurant exudes a laid-back yet lively atmosphere, perfect for groups of friends, couples, or solo travelers looking to indulge in a comforting meal after a day of exploring Palawan’s stunning landscapes.

Flavors That Transport You to Seoul

The menu is a celebration of classic Korean dishes, meticulously prepared using fresh ingredients and traditional techniques. Standout offerings include the perfectly marinated bulgogi, the crispy yet tender Korean fried chicken, and, of course, the samgyeopsal, where high-quality pork belly is grilled to perfection right at your table.

For those seeking something heartier, the kimchi jjigae (spicy kimchi stew) delivers a bold and satisfying punch, while the tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) strike the right balance between heat and sweetness. Each dish is crafted with an authenticity that rivals the best Korean restaurants, ensuring that every bite is a genuine taste of Seoul.

Exceptional Value Without Compromise

What truly sets Burning Sun Korean Restaurant & Bar apart is its commitment to quality at a price point that won’t break the bank. In a tourist hotspot like El Nido, where high prices are often the norm, this restaurant remains refreshingly affordable. The generous portions, combined with the consistency in flavor and presentation, make every meal feel like a steal.

The Driving Force Behind the Experience

A key element behind the restaurant’s exceptional service is Heygyo, the dedicated manager who ensures that every guest leaves with a smile. Her keen attention to detail, warm approach, and deep understanding of Korean cuisine elevate the entire dining experience. Whether it’s recommending the perfect dish for newcomers or personally checking in on diners, Heygyo’s hospitality adds an extra layer of charm to the restaurant.

A Late-Night Gem in El Nido

Unlike many other dining spots in town, Burning Sun Korean Restaurant & Bar is open until 3 AM, making it a rare and much-needed option for late-night cravings. Whether you’re coming in after a long day of island hopping or simply looking for a midnight Korean feast, this place has got you covered.

Final Verdict

For anyone seeking authentic Korean food in El Nido, Burning Sun Korean Restaurant & Bar is an absolute must-visit. With flavors that transport you to the streets of Seoul, prices that remain remarkably fair, and a team dedicated to excellent service, this is a place that food lovers simply cannot overlook.

The owners or the Koreans in the restaurant were actually genuinely trying to make sure the guests are enjoying themselves but we think that there is something that got lost in translation.

OVERALL, it is NOT A GOOD DEAL. Maybe the ala carte is better as we saw on other tables. For Samgyeopsal, go to the other place that serves unlimited for the same price with even different kinds of meat and more sides and free drink.

We ordered Samgyeopsal for 3. They explained there is only one kind of meat (pork) is ONLY 180grams per person. They only gave us 2 prawns in the beginning (one each) until we asked for one more as we ordered for 3 persons. There were 2 thin slices of eggplants (these are the Philippine or Japanese variety, not big), 2 slices of sweet potato, and some whole kimchi for 3 people, the server said that is all. The soy bean soup is a regular bowl to be shared by 3, we asked if there is more, the server said that it is the serving size for 2 or more. There was a little bit of Enoki, 2 slices of white onions. And you can get unlimited sides of braised eggplant, some kind of pickled cucumber, macaroni salad, lettuce, and kimchi. The egg dish also came later which was OK as the owner explained that the kitchen is busy. There is no rice with the set nor sauces as you would expect for a Samgyeopsal in the Philippines. It might be the authentic way.

For the price, it is 600Php per person for just that. Which is a bit on the high side if you compare it to other deals in town or the Philippines. They also charge 5% service but they waived it apparently.

We feel that we got food for just 2 people as it corresponds to the ad on the tarpaulin but paid for 3 people. We paid 2,080.00PHP in total, Samgyeopsal and a...

I have never left a review in my whole life but this restaurant deserves to be the first! We walked in and altough it all looks verry good from the inside and the staff was helping us pretty quickly. They gave us some small starters for free and things were looking good! Till the food arrived my girlfriend had ordered fermented bean soup (almost 500 pesos) the moment it arrived you could Just smell the stank coming of that thing its almost funny how the chef has the guts to send that to the waiters. She is from thailand and eats many korean food so its nothing to do with caltural diffrences but after taking one spoon of the soup she had the feeling she was going to get sick or throw up if eating more. I had ordered 2 sides the honey chicken and chicken cheese balls. Well ive never had a chicken more dry and old as this one i had to lay there for days. The cheese balls witj chicken were clearly 100% microwaved and tasted like they were microwaved after being deep frozen funny enough tasted best we got. Also not took more than 1 bite tho. We paid for our food and left. We were Just standing outside thinking about where to eat now as we were still super hungry as we looked from across the street how our waiter took our food she looked why we left 3 complete meals untouched she got here college pointed at the soup both smelled the soup made an ugly face and laughed as they got rid of the food. Honestly traveled for many years to many places but this was one of worst food ive ever had in my whole life please think again before going. Also expensive btw this waste of food cost us 1200 total but at least we had one cold coke and a cold...

Burning Sun Why does this place have so many 5 stars? It’s barely a 1 star. We ordered the tteokboki, bulgogi hot pot, kimchi jiggae, Korean fried chicken, and jjang ramen. None of it was passable, the tteokbokki looked like a soup and it’s not the right flavour of sweet and spicy. instead, it’s suppose to be a thicker sauce and a different consistency. The bulgogi hotpot lacked in flavour. The only maybe ‘good’ and acceptable item was the kimchi jiggae. But not spicy enough again. And the side dishes. None of the side dishes were even close to good or what I’ve eaten in comparison. The potatoes were not crispy or sugared and even the kimchi tasted off from the usual. Even had to pay to refill the side dishes which I’ve never had to do at any Korean restaurant. The fried chicken came out at the very end of our meal, 45 minutes later where we finished everything and again, it was soupy. We had ordered the garlic soy chicken flavour and it was too sweet, not enough soy flavouring what so ever. The jjang ramen (black bean ramen) wasn’t even anything remotely close to the instant ones I can make myself. It was worse. Enough said about that. The service was alright as well, they weren’t as attentive as I’m used to. But they were very sweet and nice. The manager knew we were not happy and checked in on us and I felt bad complaining as I don’t normally do, but it was definitely nothing close to expectations nor the bare minimum. The ice beer bucket was also not that great either. The ice was never refilled and it’s hot here, so it melted within 20 minutes. Who likes warm beer? Exactly. No one.

(Dec 2024) I got food poisoning from their Bulgogi Hot Pot. I'm a 100% sure because that was the only meal and water/drink my partner didn't share equally with me during our entire trip...We were at the last leg of our trip at this point. Truthfully, the Bulgogi Hot Pot wasn't good - the soup didn't taste good, the beef and shitake mushrooms was alright, and there was some kind of hard black fungus I couldn't stand. The menu said there was supposed to be glass noodles, but I don't remember eating any... not a 100% sure on that. It was disappointing that I got food poisoning because the Japchae was so good that my entire party of seven enjoyed it. I will never choose to eat here again. [Edit] in response to the owner's aggressive reply, you can still get food poisoning from bad ingredients! So, as you read my review, please take my experience as an extremely unfortunate one since none of my other member who ate other dishes got food poisoning. [edit2] editing because of owner's edit reply to my first edit. If you look at my other Google reviews, you can see I take pictures of menus from restaurants as I would like to provide prices for people to look at. And to remember what I ordered from the place. No, we didn't prepare for food poisoning, I would have never wanted to experience it in my entire life I'd I could avoid it. My partner just didn't think Bulgogi Hotpot was going to be appetizing and ordered Bibimbap to eat. So, by chance, we didn't share our meals at this place.
