AVOID- FOOD POISONING

Me and my partner both received horrible food poisoning 6-12 hours after eating here. We ate chicken shawarma and hummus.

The food came exceedingly fast, clearly not prepared fresh. We have since been in contact with the general manager Quinn to inform him of the situation so he can take further steps to improve the hygiene within the Bar. The response from him caused greater concern as he did not seem to take anything on board, only focusing on blaming other businesses as the possible cause (Such as on a boat tour. Which might I add we have not been on while here. However any boat tour I have been on, at least they cook the food FRESH!). Additionally, he tried to inform me that food poisoning does not begin to show symptoms until 16-48 hours. Which I’m sure anyone that knows anything about food poisoning is aware that it can start from much earlier than this (within the first few hours or even in some cases 30 minutes.) his lack of knowledge on this issue is eye opening.

Prior to writing this review I looked back through the other reviews that have been left. While being very surprised by the positive ones (I can only imagine lots of which came from people who were drunk as it is a fairly lively bar) I was not surprised to see other food poisoning incidents. Dating back 5 YEARS! Clearly they have not made improvements since then. Probably because the manager doesn’t take these...

10/10. They got everything right. There's a reason this place is called HAPPINESS 😍😍.  Incredible vibe, delicious food & coffee, smiling staff, great music, cocktails and bar swings! Great for solo travelers. AND a boat tour noone else does + hostel with ocean views... My fave place in El Nido for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Healthy meals including vegetarian & vegan. Well thought out menu with a Middle-Eastern influence & the best hummus & falafel. Staff are always smiling, happy & helpful. Cocktails on the bar swings are lots of fun. Check out the incredible hostel upstairs with ocean views & cool artwork - you'll want to stay. A MUST DO is their exclusive boat tour to the island east of Sibaltan; no tourists, postcard islands & beaches and a community school visit. Be unique, skip the tourist boats,  THANK ME LATER. My partner and I travelled from Australia to the Philippines. We travelled to various destinations during our holiday but El Nido was our favourite for a number of reasons. The boat tours and destinations were one of the main reasons, but also the night life and bars. Our favourite bar being Happiness Bar. There are literally swings as bar stools which is so cool. Back home, we love a good cocktail but struggled to find anywhere in the whole of The Philippines that could make a decent cocktail. That's until we found this place. There was a bartender there named Bhong. He made us feel so comfortable and made us the best Espresso Martinis and Chilli Margaritas. Better than most bars in Australia!!! His English was outstanding and just such an all round good guy!!!! My partner actually lost her phone on our last night and Bhong went out of his way to help us try and find it. Highly recommended Happiness Bar!!! If you like a good cocktail just ask for Bhong to make it for you so you're not...
