While the food and atmosphere were great, I have to give a one star after our experience. I know I can’t expect the same style of service we get in the US, but this would be considered terrible in any culture.
We arrived, were seated, and we ordered. That much went just fine. I was there with my husband. My food and his appetizer came fairly quickly. His main course, a chicken dish, didn’t come with the rest and after a while we asked about it.
The staff clearly did not realize that my husband understands Cebuano and he heard them say the meal had accidentally been delivered to another table. We just assumed they would remake it and we’d just wait a bit longer, and that would have been okay with us. We weren’t in a hurry.
That’s not what happened. Instead, I watched our sever walk over to the table next to us and pick up what I realized was my husband’s meal. He had a giggle with the guest. Then I watched walk to the other side of the room with the meal, traverse a few steps toward the kitchen, and walk back to us. It was clear he was trying to make it look like he was coming from the kitchen.
Right before he got to our table he made eye contact with the guest he’d originally delivered our food to, winked, and made a shush gesture. What’s insane is he didn’t see me staring at this shenanigan the whole time .
He puts the food down and my jaw is dropped and I ask if he touched it. He looked surprised and confused. So I clarified, did the customer you just took that from touch it. He looked even more surprised and then said, no, never sir. We weren’t buying it so I walked over to the table and asked. They first played dumb but then I said look, it’s not a big deal, but we need to know if that food was touched so we don’t risk our own health. The guest finally let up the act and admitted that he not only had touched it but he’d started eating it.
So I called the server over and made clear the mistake wasn’t the problem but the nonsense acting and lying was unacceptable. But it gets better.
They offered to remake the dish. We declined because we were over it at that point. A bit later they brought one anyway. We left it untouched and ask for the check. We got the check and the meal was included on it. I was floored. We said we’d pay for the stuff we ate but they needed to adjust for the meal my husband ordered. They did, but it was ridiculous we even had to ask.
I know employment is hard in poverty stricken countries and I’m not here trying to ruin anyone’s livelihood. But the next day that server was there again going about his business. There didn’t even seem to be a correction. And that makes me suspicious of the honesty and integrity of the whole establishment. Do not recommend, especially to anyone who’s immune-compromised because there’s a good chance their sanitary practices are sub-par. With so many great options on the island, I recommend...
Read moreHad a great experience diving with this center. The crew provided good service throughout, especially during the dives — attentive, helpful, and professional. Special thanks to our dive guide who made the dives more enjoyable with jokes and a relaxed vibe.
Only small hiccup was one morning at breakfast — we ordered a fruit platter but didn’t receive it. Still, overall the experience was very positive, and I’d definitely recommend this dive...
