If you are craving Japanese while in Boracay, this is a great place to dine! We found very few places serving authentic japanese food and this is one with the more affordable menu.
Though you may need to walk a good 15-25 minutes (depending on your pace) from D'Mall if you are staying in station 2 (a bit further if you are coming from station 1). But this is if your route is along the beach/shoreline. I think this is near where Paraw Sails and tour boats are and do come in the evening as it's cooler with a mix of the Boracay sunset.
We dined in twice since we, I rather (hehe), was craving for Japanese food. We ordered the ever present salmon sashimi, which has good portions for the price considering, then Zaru Soba the first time. Zaru soba was very noice, noodless were cooked just right, though we were only given green onions as added garnish to the soy sauce-based dip but they have condiments on the side you can mixie-machie to suit your taste. Salmon sashimi seems fresh as it still retains a bit of oiliness from the fish compared to long-frozen ones which drip and disintegrate once you pick it up. And as an added bonus, which we were so happy about, it came with authentic wasabi! Not the nitro-green ones. 🤣
The second time we still didn't skip the salmon sashimi but this time I ordered tuna sashimi as well along with rice and I created my own poke/sashimi bowl with shoyu, togarashi and pepper powder. 😋 My friend got the tonkatsu along with salmon sashimi and she said the former tasted similar to Yabu but with less fat. We also got to try fried calamari as an appetizer and it was good! The calamari was chewy and soft and the batter was a good tempura batter and with sweet/sour ketchup as dip. I also got to slurp on some mango juice but nothing too fancy, I'd still prefer Jonah's (if you are craving for some anti-heat hydration).
Service was also fast and the people were polite. They also have a selection of local ice creams if you want easy and quick dessert.
Overall, the experience, service and food was great. Best if you come in early (5:30ish or so) as it sometimes gets packed, but with mostly foreign tourists. We've rarely seen locals/domestic tourists in the time we were sitting and...
Read moreAfter a late lunch, I wasn't super hungry, but I was definitely craving a light dinner. So, I decided to give Nagisa Japanese Restaurant a try, especially since it was just a few minutes' walk from my hotel. When I got there, it was pretty quiet, just a few tables were occupied, which was fine by me.
Ambiance I really liked the vibe here. It's got this super relaxing atmosphere, and I found the blend of Japanese style with a touch of local Boracay charm really appealing. It just felt like a peaceful spot to unwind.
Service My experience with the service was a bit of a mixed bag. When I first walked in, the server who greeted me wasn't exactly friendly, which was a little off-putting. But thankfully, a different server took over later, and they were really accommodating and friendly. That definitely made the service feel much better overall.
Food For food, I went with some sushi and maki. Honestly, it was just okay – nothing that blew me away, but it wasn't bad either. I did notice that the fish on the sushi seemed a bit dry to me. It made me think that maybe sushi isn't something they get ordered a lot, and that might be why it wasn't super fresh-looking. I have a feeling they probably have other dishes that are ordered all the time, and those might be the real stars of the menu.
Price Considering it's right on the beachfront in Boracay, I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. It felt like good value for the location.
Overall Even with the initial service hiccup and the sushi being just "okay," I would actually like to come back to Nagisa. The relaxing ambiance was a big plus, and the service improved a lot. I'm genuinely curious to try their other popular dishes – the ones I think are ordered every day – because I have a feeling that's where their true...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at this Japanese restaurant, and I must say that the experience was fantastic. The restaurant offered an impressive variety of dishes on its menu, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious.
We started off with some maki rolls, which were fresh and flavorful. The chicken curry katsu was also a standout dish, with tender pieces of chicken coated in a crispy breading and served with a rich and flavorful curry sauce that had just the right amount of spice.
The mix tempura was another highlight of the meal, with a perfectly crisp and light batter that complemented the fresh seafood and vegetables inside. The Takoyaki was also a delightful dish, with a soft and chewy texture that was filled with savory ingredients.
To complement our meal, we ordered some fruit shakes, which were a refreshing and delicious way to cleanse our palates between dishes. The drinks were made with fresh fruits and had just the right amount of sweetness.
Overall, I highly recommend this Japanese restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. The variety of food on the menu is impressive, and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. The service was also top-notch, with attentive and friendly staff who made us feel welcome and well-cared for throughout our meal. I would definitely visit this restaurant again...
