Wicked Squid Divers — Local services in Malay

Update: back again this December for another visit to Boracay and some dives with Wicked Squid Divers. Again i was not dissapointed and felt right at home for my return visit. I have been dving in Asia for over twenty years and I am a PADI instructor level certification. Of all the shops i have visited WSD is one of the best. The combination of a strong technical presence, plus small size (makes it very personal) and a super friendly approach makes it a shop i can highly recomend. i really like their local DMs who go out of their way to make sure you have a good dive experience. A big shout out here to Sam who i look forward to seeing/diving again in the future! BTW they also have their own well maintained boat which significantly adds to their flexibility in dive scheduling. I can highly recomend this shop as part of your visit to Boracay if you plan to go diving or want to try out dving by doing a discover SCUBA course!

Original review: i will start by saying five stars and highly recommend as a dive shop in Boracay. I was walking down the alley which connects the beach to downtown and came across the Wicked Squid Divers shop. It was such a cool name i hoped they had a corresponding T-shirt to go with the name. i stopped in to check out the T-shirt (which i bought) and ended up talking to the American who owns the shop. I was quite impressed by both the shop and his local knowledge so I signed up for the wreck dive and was not disappointed! The shop is clean and the gear is all in good shape which is always something i look for in dive shop. If the investment is not being done to maintain the gear i always have second thoughts and that is clearly not the case with this shop. Prior to getting on the boat Jeff Mcbride the owner gave myself and another diver the pre-dive briefing which was very detailed along with video of the wreck. i was introduced to my DM Sam who took care of all my gear. it was an easy five minute walk to the boat and about ten minutes to the dive site. I was initially a little underweighted but that was a quick recovery by Sam with an additional weight. The wreck is a purposely sunk boat that would be good for anyone taking the basic wreck course. it is pretty open and no real tight or dark spots. there was lots of sea life and the visibility was very good (coming from Coron where sometimes cannot see hand in front of mask). i was told by Jeff there are times of the year where 40 meter visibility can be had in Boracay! Both Jeff and his Filipino wife could not have been more accommodating and made you feel welcome from the moment you walked in the shop! If you are looking for a Dive Shop in Boracay take a short walk down the alley next to the 7/11 to this shop. i do not think you will be disappointed! btw they also gave me a free video of the dive...

Our recent scuba diving adventure in Boracay with Wicked Squid Divers on March 25th, 2025, was truly unforgettable. It surpassed all expectations, and I wanted to share the details with you.

We were incredibly fortunate to dive with Ben, whose expertise and friendly nature made the entire experience exceptional. His safety briefing was thorough yet relaxed, instantly putting us at ease. This allowed us to fully appreciate the breathtaking beauty of the underwater world without any unnecessary anxiety.

The vibrant coral reef was teeming with life – a kaleidoscope of colorful fish and fascinating marine creatures unlike anything I've ever witnessed. It was a truly magical experience, a vibrant tapestry of underwater life. We saw micro nudi’s, Clown fish, grouper, sardines, racers and several others. The sheer biodiversity was astounding.

What truly set Wicked Squid Divers apart, however, wasn't just the stunning reef itself. The entire team was exceptional. The boat crew and assistant dive masters were attentive, proactive, and clearly dedicated to ensuring the safety and comfort of every diver. Their professionalism was a noticeable contrast to other dive operations we've experienced in the past.

Speaking with Jeff, the owner, it was evident that his passion for both diving and environmental conservation is deeply ingrained in his business. His commitment to responsible practices and the protection of Boracay's delicate marine ecosystem was inspiring. This commitment extends from his operational practices to his clear dedication to protecting the fragile ecosystem.

Beyond the incredible dive, Ben's underwater photography skills added another layer of excellence to the day. The photos he took beautifully capture the vibrant colors of the reef and the pure joy we felt exploring this underwater paradise. I'll forward them to you soon so you can see for yourself.

In short, I wholeheartedly recommend Wicked Squid Divers, and specifically Ben as a divemaster, to anyone planning a scuba diving trip to Boracay. From the exceptional dive itself to the dedicated and passionate team, it was a truly world-class experience. They are, without a doubt, the best dive shop we've ever...

My interaction with Wicked Squid Divers began about 3 weeks before my scheduled trip of 1-7SEP. I was arriving a day before everyone else in our group and I wanted to dive. From the first FB Message to the day I left I was thoroughly impressed by Jeff, April, Ticks, and the rest of the crew. Although I should list April first: Everything that me and our group could ever need she made it happen. From remedy for an upset stomach, to picture taking, to setting up multiple transportation efforts for multiple divers and gear she was 10000% on point and made it happen.

Jeff is next: Very friendly and willing to make your diving goals a reality (within reason of course). Every day the dives were very well planned and executed and he made every effort to accommodate us getting in the water. Although weather.... and a certain Phillipines Coastal agency that won't be named... Can't be controlled and we got scrubbed he made every effort to make our trip worth our time. Thank you for getting me to 100 dives even through all the struggles.

Ticks and the crew: These guys did EVERYTHING to make this a beach resort style dive trip. Even though I am stubborn they made sure our gear was moved to/from, loaded on the boat, tanks changed after every dive, and even helped divers gear up. Truly professional and they went above and beyond in less than ideal conditions to make sure we (and our gear) were safe and well taken care of

Overall, Wicked Squid Divers quickly went from feeling like a company to friends/family you can't wait to hang out with again. DIVE WITH...
