It's an old charming manila home converted to a restaurant. Frontage is quite small at the groudfloor but is a good size for a neighborhood resto. Grilling, cafe, kitchen and all busy cooking activities are concentrated at the ground floor. Could also dine at least 16 customers, al fresco.
Food is affordable. Menu is mostly compacted filipino favorites - street food, home meals, adapted American food, coffee, fruit shakes. Sadly, coffee wasnt available at the time we dined bec their machine was broken. We had chicken fingers and fries - fries is good, chicken is good too but spicy for kids taste. Others we ordered: 》isaw - not my liking. It had that bitter taste. I prefer isaw that is thoroughly cleaned. Maybe it's a matter of preference. The sauce is also sweet. 》crispy pata - is good! Crunch on the skin, soft and tender meat. Does not have the strong pork smell. 》spicy shrimp pasta - this is also really good. Angel hair pasta cooked nicely, well seasoned and cooked. You can taste the garlic, parmesan, chili, and shrimp distinctly. 》lokasyon pancit - a good sized platter. Generous on topping. I like the crunch of the pork skin topping with the bihon. 》Kare kare - so-so. The sauce is too sweet and runny for my taste. 》bag of shrimps - the margarine is overpowering eveything else. Shrimps was a good size and cooked well. The sweet corn was soft. But all i can taste was the margarine. 》 chicharon bulaklak - its okay. The outer is crunchy, the center is chewy. The sauce is too sweet. It just didnt go well with the chicharon. 》 lato - a good portion with 1 whole salted egg, halved. 》bulalo - wasnt able to try but the portion looked big enough to share for 2 pax (solo order). Uncle said it is good. 》 rice - garlic and plain were all too watery, sticky. I think for plain rice its okay to have that almost lugaw softness. But not with garlic rice. 》oyster - cheese and garlic are good. Meat still soft, cheese melted. Cheese and bacon is also good. The bacon on top were crispy. Plain cheese oyster is also good. The only downside is they serve it really really late. Like an hour! For the 10pcs of oyster we had to followup more than 3x. served when we're all done eating. 》rootbeer float - nostalgic but lacks ice. I had literally rootbeer &vanilla ice cream on top. No ice. I dont know if its how its serverd. Wasnt told or asked for preference. 》chicken skin - so-so. Bland. 》baby back ribs - NOT SERVED
Service - poor. I cant say its bec of too many people coz I arrived ahead of the crowd, where there was not one diner at the ground floor yet. Ordered some food ahead to eat while waiting for a 10-seater table to be ready at the 2nd floor ac area. The isaw was served abt 20-25mins. Chicken at 40mins, chicharon bulaklak almost an hour. Oyster past 1 hr. Drinks served incomplete. Iced tea was served 1hr late. I saw people coming and going upstairs. The servers didnt let 3 of us wait at an available table on the 2nd floor since "wala pa naman & matagal pa ang mga kasama dumating" even after i said some is about to arrive. I thought walang vacant na table. Surprised that there were vacant tables that seats 2 or 4 guests made available to the next walk in. They made us wait at the ground floor despite the availability and knowing we have ordered food to be served ahead while waiting. True enough when we made it on the second floor there were some tables available. Asking for water, ice, plates, utensils and sauces takes a while - very long and takes repeated reminder. I suggest they make it available at the 2nd floor where dine in guests can freely take when they are busy.
Parking 》 street. Park at your own risk.
Lower your expectations when dining. I heard overwhelming feedbacks that made me expect high. There is nothing special. I guess dining affordably in an old manila home and if you really want grilled oysters and can wait for it. Or if you live around the block. Would not recommend for distant food explorers. I dont think it is worth the...
Read moreI've always wanted to try this, and when I found myself needing to be somewhere not too far from here, I took the chance to have an early dinner here with a friend.
You might miss it just before you hit Maceda St., it will be on your right side with its name written on the awning. It's good we got there early before rush hour so we could just park by the side of the road. Around 5:30pm onwards, the place starts getting more patrons.
As we were dining in, we were directed to go upstairs. It's like an old house converted into a restaurant. It evokes certain nostalgia as if you were visiting your grandparents in the province. It was spacious enough to give privacy to each table.
What I love most about it is their affordable prices and of course, the food is delicious! I will definitely be going back to this place to try out their other dishes. They also do breakfast buffet every Sunday, so I have to try that as well.
We ordered their iced tea (a pitcher just cost us P70!), their shrimp aglio olio pasta (which js my favorite as it was spicy and they were generous with the ingredients) and their buttered chicken.
Another plus point is that their toilet is spacious and kept clean and smelling nice.
You order by filling out and ticking off the menu list. Don't forget to write your name on top. When you are ready to leave, just go down the stairs and mention your name at the cashier so they can add up your order and you can pay them.
This one is highly...
Read moreGood place to chill and have a bite. Overall the food is good, some dishes have a sweet touch in it (especially the kare-kare) but for me it is tolerable. Service crews and the staff of this establishment are highly attentive dispite the crowd of patrons they serve. The atmosphere is very nice (for me), lighter ambiance with a touch of classic pre-colonial structure of the place.
For those who will want to visit the area; The pros good food cozy ambiance good place to chill, have coffee and probably drink some beer utensils are well maintained no creaking sound on the second floor! (I didn't notice this while visiting but it amazed me) budget friendly meals
The cons food have a touch of sweetness expect long lines cramped space (but hey it's in Manila expect no less) probability of drunk encounters (i did not experience this but expect it since patrons can drink alcoholic beverages here) no secured parking space, staff or "parking guides" might direct you to park beside the streets or other closed Establishments not PWD friendly space, those who will visit with PWD or senior citizens with them, you can only eat on the ground floor, going up to the second floor would be hard since their stairs is very steep with small steps (around 8" to 12" wide not exact but i believe it...
