SM San Lazaro Hypermarket is where I usually do my grocery shopping because itโs the nearest to my place. However, Iโve recently noticed that my grocery expenses have suddenly increased.
Last week, before heading home, I picked up some groceriesโmostly different types of laundry soap and a few other items. To my surprise, my total bill was โฑ4,600. Since I was in a hurry to pack my things, I wasnโt able to check the receipt and couldnโt figure out why the total was so high.
Then, last night, I bought two bottles of water and a few other items, and my bill was almost โฑ1,700. While I was waiting at the elevator, I decided to compute the prices and realized I had been charged for eight bottles of water. Even though I was already at the parking area, I went back to the grocery store to complain.
The saleslady looked visibly tense when she saw me returning to question the charges. Thatโs when I realized something odd: my original bill should have been around โฑ1,100, but it was suddenly updated to โฑ1,500, and then again to over โฑ1,600. While I was counting my money, she appeared to be doing something on her machine that increased the total.
Whatโs even more suspicious is that the first item shown on my receipt was the bottled water, even though it was actually the last item she scanned. Iโm not sure if this is just an isolated incident involving her or if other cashiers are doing the same thingโbut right now, I donโt trust...
ย ย ย Read moreI do not agree with the policy they have on credit memos. A couple of weeks ago, I bought something at Ace Hardware in SM Makati but ended up returning it. I bought it cash but can't get my money back. I got a credit memo instead so I used it to purchase what I needed at home a couple of days later. But I wasn't able to use it all so they gave me a credit memo for the remaining balance. A week later, I needed an insulated cooler and pitchers so I went back to get them. They didn't carry pitchers so I decided to get a cooler. I tried to use the credit memo and the cashier called the manager to tell me I have to "consume" the balance in the CM. I explained to the manager that I didn't have a problem doing that if they carried the merchandise I needed. I didn't want to spend on something I don't need. The manager insisted that I "consume all that's in the CM. So, I ended up not buying the cooler I initially went there for. I don't think it's fair to force customers with credit memo to spend for things they do not need. I hope this feedback reaches the policy makers of SM City San Lazaro. This is not the practice at SM City Makati - they are more accommodating than SM...
