Chef Samurai Subic — Restaurant in Olongapo

My recent visit to this Japanese restaurant was a pleasant surprise, especially considering it was a holiday evening. Despite the dinner rush, we were seated immediately, which was a huge plus, as the space has plenty of tables to accommodate a high volume of guests.

For our meal, we ordered the katsudon, seafood ramen, and beef gyudon. The prices were quite reasonable, and the serving sizes were generous, making it a very affordable and satisfying meal overall. My companions were very happy with their choices, but I was a little disappointed with the katsudon. I found the sauce to be a bit too sweet for my taste and a little watery, which detracted from the dish.

Another minor issue was the service. It took a while to get the attention of the staff, and I had to ask for our drinks—a soda and a glass of water—three times before they finally arrived. Despite this small hiccup, the overall experience was good. Humble Quality Japanese Meals. Attentive hosts. Serves Genmaicha as their house tea. I had a large salmon bento. seriously large indeed such a big yet complete meal. Bento has miso soup on the side. Contents of bento, fruit slices, side salad with scrumptious spicy maguro, pan seared/grilled salmon slab, yasai or stir fired vegetables and a bed of japanese rice. Agedashi Tofu is beautifully executed had to order another. Balanced meals Worth your time and money. Overall deserves 5-stars. Wide parking space allows 4 vehicles in front of the restaurant. Then an open space that can accommodate about 20 vehicles the least. Consider us as a fan sure to comeback for more. High recommended restaurant to try when in Subic. Rustic and practical setting. Dining area is well lit. Tables are prepared for social distancing. Reliable restroom. Quiet quick phased staffs that I appreciate the most. No matter how busy the kitchen or the counter is. They manage to keep the conversations to a minimum...

Eating here is always part of the itinerary, with my two boys loving the chicken katsu. They even say that it is BETTER THAN YABU. My wife and I took a bite (since we were still full from the Meatplus lunch earlier) and masarap nga (the sauce was just wow!). The sushi/sashimi is great too (except in this trip of ours they unfortunately ran out of mangoes...but the salmon aburi (ordered 2x!) made up for it 😉).

Service was good too, with one of the waiters asking us how the food was which my 2 boys gave their thumbs up sign of approval.

The place was quite full so just goes to show na people love the food (vs other commercialized Japanese restos).
