offerings are pretty good. only rating food a solid 3 as i haven’t tried the teas and menu items exclusive to just kopi tiam vs their other restaurants.
we ordered for 2: •fresh amoy lumpia — which was pretty good and a big serving, the 193 price point is justifiable for its size. this is kind of a cross between chinese lumpia and lumpiang ubod, so it’s very catered to the filipino taste with its runnier sauce. •cuapao — cuapao for other stores is usually only the white bread, but theirs has meat, nuts, etc. very similar to the amoy lumpia’s filling, but you only get the meat slices for the cuapao. it also has a thicker and darker sauce vs the amoy lumpia. of all the items we ordered, this was just okay to me. •garlic squid — was so good actually and straightforward, but maybe it’s lacking a bit in garlic. it just tasted like salt and pepper squid, though it was fried well with its bouncy squid. •mapo tofu — this isn’t as spicy and strong tasting as i’m used to when it comes to common mapo tofus, but i appreciate this as i like the prominent taste of the mushrooms. try to really bite through each of the elements one by one (tofu, eggplant, pork) and the mild taste really comes through
i would come back, if only to try more menu items and the teh tariks. place is quaint and homey, most of the staff are knowledgeable about their menu items. when it’s busy, it just also takes a few minutes for them to take orders. can’t say anything for the restroom as i didn’t use it...
Read moreI was very pleased to see this small cafe situated very close to the AirBnB apartment in Quezon City, as I like the Malaysian kopi (coffee). The inside of the cafe is homey and comfortable. The menu offers a mixed variety of Malaysian and local cuisine. I visited the cafe twice; once to have a coffee in the evening and then to have breakfast the next day. The place is open from 9 am until 01:00 am. The coffee was okay but the chocolate cake was absolutely delicious! Moist and just perfect. It's as good as any that I've had in some high end cafes in Tokyo! The Angus beef Tapa I had for breakfast the next morning was also quite good. I say this even though I am not a big fan of the Filipino cuisine (cannot understand why everything has to be so sweet!). The only concern (a common trait in most cafes/eating places in Manila) is the absolute lack of urgency in bringing out the food. Just cannot understand why it takes...
Read moreThis place does a lot of things well. First, there's easy parking. Second, the food is cheap! It's really good value for money and the salt and pepper squid beat out even Lugang's salt and pepper squid which I had like two days after I went here. The rice is tasty but nothing special while the Salt and Pepper spare ribs were not too bony.
Prepandemic I came here all the time and ordered through the whole menu but had a back then. Post pandemic my hectic schedule has brought me back occasionally because this is one of the few places open late...
