Tagbalayon Restaurant - A Must-Visit in Siquijor
Our experience at Tagbalayon Restaurant in San Juan, Siquijor, was nothing short of delightful! So much so that we found ourselves returning three times for breakfast during our stay. This charming spot perfectly combines great food, a relaxing ambiance, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
One of the standout aspects of Tagbalayon is its thoughtful inclusion of vegetarian options, which can be a rarity on the island. It was a refreshing change to find delicious, plant-based meals that didn’t compromise on flavor or quality. The portions were generous and well-balanced, leaving us satisfied after every meal. Whether it was a hearty breakfast bowl, a fresh smoothie, or a locally-inspired dish, every bite felt like it was made with care and attention to detail.
The restaurant’s ambiance deserves just as much praise. It’s an ideal place to chill, whether you’re starting your day or taking a mid-morning break. With its relaxed vibe, cozy seating, and beautiful surroundings, Tagbalayon feels like a little oasis in the heart of San Juan. Read moreWe had a nice stay here overall, but there were a few things to note the food is cheap but the portions are very small the staff watch you eat so intensely it is very uncomfortable, when I ordered something abit different due to a dietary restriction a group of the staff stared and laughed at me as I was eating for the entire meal from the corner of the room. It was a very uncomfortable dinner experience. received mouldy bread for breakfast and very very acidic and off tasting chips at dinner during the day they clean the rooms which is nice, but they also move all of your stuff around. I came back to everything on my bed being laid out in a box, my toiletries unpacked and put in this box. It was nice to come back to a clean tidy place but I personally do not like it when people touch and move around my belongings. the staff pushed and convinced us to get a more expensive tuktuk with them, telling us we had to rush and leave now otherwise we would miss our ferry. It quickly became very clear to us that we had no reason to rush as the drive was 20 mins less then they had told us, we had plenty of time to go and find our own way of transport to the port which would have been much cheaper.
Other than that, room was decent, nice place to chill and chat, good location right next to the beach for...
Read moreWe chose to eat here again because I remembered enjoying the food during our first visit, and we were pleasantly surprised that their prices were lower than other places.
This time, I skipped the laminated menu and went straight to the special menu board. I ordered a pork kebab for myself and ginger chicken for my husband. He found his chicken dry. As a kebab enthusiast, I was hoping for roasted tomatoes and onions on my skewers—something I really love. Instead, I received three pale pork skewers with no tomatoes or onions in between.
The taste was overwhelmingly peppery and dry, and that was about it. The rice was half-cooked, making it unpleasantly crunchy. However, since we had skipped lunch and it was already around 4 PM, I was starving and ate it anyway.🤷 The BBQ I had at the boulevard at 20 pesos each was a lot tastier and tender.
To top it off, the place was swarming with mosquitoes, and it felt uncomfortably hot. We were sweating while eating. They had removed the stand fans that were there before, making the experience even worse.
Unfortunately, I won’t be dining here again—no regrets. Not worth...
