I honestly don't understand why, after walking in the door to find the waitress eating in front of all of the customers and then making no attempt to wash her hands before collecting plates of food, we didn't walk straight out again. Believe me, we should have and I hope that this review will stop you from making the same mistake.
It simply stuns me that a country with a health department enables this kind of absolutely filthy venue to stay open. Whether it is possible to bribe their way out of it or they simply don't get inspected, I don't know, but this place is downright disgusting.
Run your finger across the top of the wine fridge and you will find a buildup of grease and dirt that requires YEARS of being left to accumulate. Do the same across the top of the pictures, the furniture, anywhere, and you will find the same.
Now, ask the waitress why this is the case and, surprise, surprise, the response i s a shrug of the shoulders and an "aren't you weird" smile.
No, I am not weird. Somebody who goes to work in an environment that is so disgracefully dirty and has absolutely no care for the customers that she delivers food to in that same location, now that, for me, is weird. Why are you not cleaning instead of eating?
I asked if the owner was on site which was met by the same "aren't you weird" reaction and an entirely unsurprising "no".
Why unsurprising?
Well, put simply, the owner clearly gave up doing anything but roll in the cash that this hovel generates by selling genuinely awful food (oh yes, the food is utter garbage, of course, with none of the correct techniques deployed and absolutely none of the flavour that a restaurant selling 40 złoty sandwiches should be producing) served in a genuinely vile dining room that lacks even basic maintenance or hygiene standards.
This needs to stop. Warsaw is a city that is more than happy to part with its hard-earned cash (or its hard borrowed cash as is far too often the case now) but it is time that it demanded, at the very least, some standards of hygiene and service.
Every single person that reads this review but then chooses to visit the restaurant anyway is a part of the problem and you should be ashamed of yourself for choosing to be part of the "It Crowd" movement instead of the "Let's force restaurant owners to provide us with safe food in clean, well maintained environments".
Of course, if you REALLY want to pay rip-off prices for dreadful food while risking getting sick from the squalor that you have chosen to eat it in, well, this place should be first...
Read moreWe came to Krem for the fondue and we were happy to find a place in Warsaw that served it authentically :) We visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening, so it was mainly empty - the place itself is not too big and usually has big lines for breakfast, but seems not so much for dinner time. Service was quite slow but we came an hour before closing time (which was 8pm that day, a bit early in my opinion). The staff tried to accommodate us but there was only one waiter on the floor and one person in the kitchen. From a food perspective, we came especially for the fondue as we missed it after our Swiss travels, and it did not disappoint. The taste of the fondue itself was quite authentic and we enjoyed the additions that came with it. The only low was that the portion was a bit small for the two of us, we would have loved more of the cheese and less of the additions (we ate about half of what was served before the cheese ended). We asked for a raw egg (we like to crack that into the end of the cheese) and the staff was a bit confused but happy to oblige, which we appreciated! :) Overall a nice experience, will come back another time when the...
Read moreUpon entering there was a really bad sewer smell lingering around the whole place - not sure where it came from, but quite unpleasant for a brunch. The toilet door handle was broken - impossible to close the door - and the ventilation system really really noisy, we could hear it all the time. Food and drinks were okay-ish, but overpriced, e.g. the pastrami sandwich that one of us ordered, had barely any pastrami in it. Service is a bit slow and they forgot something from our order. (Ok, it happens sometimes with a large group.) Overall, I don't really understand the good reviews, in my opinion with all these overpriced food and drinks they should make enough money to at least fix broken things. I'm sorry, but I cannot...
