Papi Chulo has definitely tried to infuse a taste of Mexico into Wroclaw (in particular more mexico city), and they've succeeded in many ways. They offer dishes that are often hard to find in most Mexican restaurants.
The Micheladas might not suit everyone's taste, but they are quite enjoyable. While the preparation of Micheladas may vary, they manage to capture a good flavor. The star🥇🏆 of the restaurant, without a doubt, is the pastor tacos🌮, prepared similar style you'd see in Mexico City. The taquero's way of cooking al pastor tacos is an authentic touch🇲🇽. The suadero tacos are also a highlight. Some reviews have criticized the suadero for being too fatty and having an inconsistent texture, but these complaints seem somewhat unfair given that they pertain to personal preferences. It's like complaining about the texture of a dish without considering its true nature. My friends loved the tacos al pastor and suadero (so do I). The quality of the tortillas: Bravo!👏🏽. So far best ones i have ever taste in europe. You should defineltly start selling them.
In my case I went for the enmoladas, but being from Oaxaca, the place of seven kinds of mole, I'm a bit picky. The Baja California tacos were a bit of a letdown too. One tricky thing for Mexican restaurants in Poland is getting all the ingredients, and they have to tone down the spiciness to match the Polish taste for garlic instead. So, I was left craving some real heat and missing those true Mexican salsas. However I understand the reason for modifying their salsas. Their menu is impressive, but sometimes they tease dishes on social media that aren't available when you're there, like the aguachile.
The service at Papi Chulo is seriously friendly, which isn't that common in Polish restaurants. We had two things happen during our visit. First, a glass for our michelada burst and broke (no harm done). We got a new one but to make up for it, they gave us two desserts for free – the Mexican tiramisu and pudin – and they were both seriously tasty. Hard to pick one but if i had to choose I'd totally recommend the tiramisu. The second thing was a mix-up with our order. We asked for tacos de suadero but got tacos al pastor because our waitress got it wrong. But here's the cool part: they fixed the mistake and gave us the pastor tacos on the house. I've never seen that kind of thing in a restaurant in Poland. Just a tip for them, maybe they could get the waiter to repeat the order or set up a system to avoid mess-ups. When we were ordering, I had to correct her twice, and we still got the wrong thing.
Overall, the vibe of the place is awesome. Me and my friends from India and Italy really dug the atmosphere. I also like how they've gone the extra mile with the Mexican-style plates and glasses. Adds a nice touch to the whole experience. The fact that the chefs are from Mexico really shines through in the food, service, and overall atmosphere. It made me feel proud and delighted...
Read moreI didn't feel it's a full 5 but it would be unfair to lower it. It's the first actually Mexican place in Wroclaw and they do pretty good job with their food! First of all, I loved the place, the ambience, music that made you dance a little but wasn't annoying or too much. We ordered Sikil-Pak as a started, it surprised us with the deep taste, absolutely delicious. When you think hummus you usually imagine something mild, but this was explosion of taste truly. As a main we tried three different types of tacos: Taco de Barbacoa, Taco de Cochinita Pibil and Taco de Hongos con Mole. All three were very, very good, surprisingly pork won the competition. I had a bit more expectations for brisket - it's absolutely great, but I had a chance to eat similar, but way more juicy one and can't stop comparing it. Both types of meat would be slightly better if a bit more moist. Again, don't think it's dry, because it's not! It's just comparison to best one I had :) The dessert that night was rice pudding with white chocolate, with some salted carmel and peanuts on the bottom, finished to resemble a crème brûlée. At first we were worried it's too sweet, but quickly learned it's the caramelized sugar on top only, while the inside was absolutely perfect, especially mixed with saltiness of carmel.
Tltr: definitely recommended, I was hoping for a place like this in Wroclaw...
Read moreBeautiful fine dine place, yummy food but with small portions. I had never seen a tiny bowl of nachos before I visited this place. Later I was told that "starters come in small portions", though they still cost the same as main course. But still very tasty food. We were a group of 8 on a busy Saturday evening and were informed that there will be a 10% service charge because of the bigger group, which was fine. We were also informed that they will not give separate bill per person and there will only be 1 bill, then why the extra service charge? At the time of payment she also requested to pay service charge in cash. So we were sitting there after getting the bill, calculating how much each of us should pay. But the worst part was when they slightly messed up with the serving of the order, when enquired for the missing item we were told - "it's coming, we only have so many hands." Maybe she was having a bad day. :( The other girl who was serving us was cheerful. And they also have a tequila expert to recommend from the various shots on the menu. The music was too loud and it was getting difficult at one point to even hear my neighbour. All in all I would like to give this place a...
