I wanted to try pani ça muesa (panini con la milza) in ballaro market but when i stumbled upon @PhilStraver's clip recommending Porta Carbone and seeing that its been around since 1943 + the more than 3k reviews, i went to Via Cala instead. The store is across a marina and has a modern sicilian vibe. It was Saturday 4ish pm, there was a little queue and empty tables. The sandwich @3.50e is dripppping in oil. A drop or two went on the floor (luckily not on my outfit otherwise,.....) and some on the table. Were they in a hurry in serving the sandwich or it is just like that?? Meat is super tender. Taste is ok but nothing mind blowing. Perhaps as an asian, a veal's lungs and spleen is not something that is too exotic to me. Or i may just have been kind of full having been at Mercato del Capo and Ballaro market. Maybe i should try it next time with an empty stomach.

I've come to the place few times already and always at around dinner time to find it very packed everytime. There is no table service and to order you have to line up to pay first and then get your orders. Now, there are plenty of tables but they get occupied easily, but you can always order to go and have a seat across the street in front of the port. The milza (spleen) is very good. The staff is very friendly and simpatici. Shoutout to Sergio e Fabio! And the pannelle and crocchette are just a must-try to eat along with the milza. It's great value for the price. Highly recommended ☺️

Delicious food, friendly staff and great prices! We tried to order from their kiosk but it did not have the full menu. We typed our order on our phone and showed the staff. The guy brought over a coworker who spoke English. She explained that they were out of one item but it was fine since we had ordered plenty anyway. The restaurant is fairly small and it was full at the time. Another staff helped us find a table. The menu was very affordable and the food was delicious. We especially loved the Caponata. Highly recommended!

This is as authentic as it gets. Piles of rolls, pans of Muesa, fast service and not a tourist to be seen when we were there. You order from the counter, wait a few minutes as they prepare it, wrap it in wax paper then enjoy. There are a handful of plastic tables and chairs on the sidewalk where you plop yourself down and dig in. 1st don’t be intimidated it is really good. Tastes like a combo of mild liver and beef with a rich coating of juice…kind of like a burger. A range of...
