Osteria Mangia e Bevi - Piazza Marina — Restaurant in Palermo

We two ladies arrived on time for dinner, having reserved through the hotel, and three men were standing outside. We walked up to them and greeted them with “Buona Serra” and a smile. None of the three spoke to us. Not a single word. Not a smile. Nothing. Not even a “ciao”. We asked for a “table for two please”. Zero response. So I repeated in Italian again. The first man said, “we close in 15 mns”. Then said something in Italian I did not understand. I said, “excuse me I don’t understand.” He literally rolled his eyes at me and turned to the other man and said something I did not understand. The second man then said to us, very curtly, “you order directly.” I understood that he meant, “you order immediately”. Still no “welcome!” No “Buona Serra!” Nothing polite or kind at all. I looked at the second man pointing at the menu he held in his hand and said, “can I look at the menu first…?” They just stared at us. That was it. I turned and walked away with my cousin. One of the men Called after us to come back. I turned around and said, “no. that was very unkind to be told essentially “hurry up and eat and leave…just spend money” . The only reason they called us to come back is that the hotel Had made a reservation for us. And they knew I would tell the hotel not to recommend them again to anyone as they were inexcusably rude and unkind. Not only is there is no way I would ever return to or recommend this restaurant, but I was not at all surprised to see other reviews such as mine in the review section before I began my review tonight. I have never been so rudely treated or unkindly treated in a restaurant anywhere in the world. Ever. There are so many great places to eat in Palermo. And so many nice restaurant owners and workers. The food is very good, traditional Sicilian. Even though there were a lot of people and we didn't have a reservation, they let us in. A very complete menu and good prices. The bad thing: the Italian waiters treated us very badly. The two waiters who looked like immigrants were very kind. There was a very tense atmosphere between the "local" waiters and the immigrants, which made us feel uncomfortable. Several times one of the "local" waiters looked at our table with a dirty look for no reason. Purtroppo mi trovo a recensionare questo locale in maniera non positiva. Abbiamo ordinato tre piatti di pasta, un secondo e una bibita. Precisando che uno dei primi piatti doveva essere fatto in un certo modo per le nostre bambine. Hanno sbagliato il tipo di pasta, ma non solo, aggiunto un ingrediente che non avevamo richiesto, ma che avevamo semplicemente ordinato un piatto di pasta con patate e nient'altro. Arriva con pasta fresca con patate e pienissima di formaggio ( tralasciando il fatto che qualcuno potesse essere allergico) I nostri piatti: Uno con broccoli e l'altro con pasta con patate e spezzatino. (Diciamo l'odore) Intanto il tipo di pasta uguale per tutti, porzioni ridottissime , che nemmeno quando siamo a dieta ne mangiamo così poca. Anche perché, guardandoci attorno i piatti degli altri erano diversi, per non parlare quelle delle nostre figlie, che per quanto fosse stato sbagliato quasi tutto , almeno la quantità era superiore alla nostra. Ma c'è stato detto da un ragazzo del personale ,che era stato fatto appositamente perché così i bambini mangiassero di più. Ma cosa la pasta sbagliata? E noi non siamo stati considerati per le porzioni?! Preciso anche che il secondo non aveva nessuno gusto e le patate al forno erano bruciate. Ovviamente ho richiamato il personale per precisare di questi accorgimenti. Un altro ragazzo ancora , ha rimediato togliendoci qualcosa dal conto e non posso che umilmente ringraziare. Ma sicuramente non è un posto che consiglierei. D'altronde il buongiorno si vede dal mattino, e non esiste nessuna scusante per non essere stati serviti come Dio comanda. Avrei preferito pagare bene ma con soddisfazione, tanto da poter rivenire e senz'altro consigliare, ma ahimè non posso né ritornare né consigliare!!
