While strolling around, we stumbled upon this small, unassuming restaurant. From the outside, it’s easy to miss, but we’re so glad we gave it a chance! This cozy spot is run by a charming couple who have clearly been perfecting their craft for years. It truly feels like a family-run place, and the personal touch shines through in both the service and the ambiance. We decided to let the owner surprise us with a full meal, including a starter, main course, and a wine pairing, instead of choosing from the menu (although an English menu is available). What an excellent decision that was! The pairing was spot-on, and the dessert, prepared by the owner’s wife (Louis’ wife, we believe?), was another delightful surprise. The best part? For a complete three-course meal for two, including wine, we only paid €60. Incredible value for what was undoubtedly the best food we’ve had in our three weeks in Portugal. A small downside: the chairs aren’t the most comfortable, but honestly, that’s a minor issue compared to the overall experience. The owner is incredibly friendly and, when needed, uses Google Translate to bridge the language gap – it only added to the charm. All in all, this place is a must-visit. If you’re in the area, don’t walk past this hidden gem. Highly recommended!

Great little local joint. We were the only foreigners in there at dinner, which is the sweet spot for a traveler. Waiter didn’t seem to speak English, but there is an English menu if you’re Portuguese isn’t conversational. Lamb was fantastic. Vino verde was affordable and excellent. Bill was around 50 euro for two entrees, bottle of wine, and a shared dessert.

My partner and I had the best time at this authentic family owned restaurant. The owners didn’t speak any English but it was the most hospitable and warm experience we’ve gotten in Portugal (google translate helps!). I got the grilled bass and I’m going to dream about that meal for the rest of my life.

Sr Luis Fernandes’s place is a true Alentejo gem. The food is comforting and tasty, the service is solid and the atmosphere is cozy authentic Portugal Alentejo.

The place shares a list of their daily specials available for take out on their Facebook page so make sure to check that out if you have time.

All of the dishes are well prepared and tasty. I would recommend their seafood rice “arroz de mariscos”, anything steak, lamb and pork of course. The side dishes are a nice helping of fries, salad, rice, or veggies. Wash the food down with a nice glass of alentejo white/red wine and water if you need. End with a nice sericaia with plums from Elvas and coffee. If you feel that you’ve overdone yourself, ask for a digestif of ginja (cherry liquor) or poejo (a local herb that tastes...
