Taberna do Pita — Restaurant in Évora

One of the best meals we've had in Portugal! We showed up at 7pm (the hours are not listed anywhere) and the door was locked but the lights were on and there was music. The owner must have heard us outside and he opened up for us. He was hosting a large party for a birthday later but brought us in and explained the 3 dishes on offer: braised bacalao, braised pork cheeks and tomato soup. We ordered the bacalao and the pork to share, some wine, olives and bread. The food was excellent, the owner/waiter/chef (he does it all) was charming and the price was very good €29 for all of that!...

We arrived a bit after lunchtime and the place looked closed other than the fact that the door was ajar. We walked in and met the chef. He proceeded to tell us what he had available and then cooked us a delicious meal. Incredibly deliciously food! We ordered the lagartinhos and lombinhos and both were tasty and well served. We also tried the cheese and paio as appetizers and they were incredible.
