Our worst experience in a restaurant in at least 10 years food wise speaking. To be clear and honest everyone can have a bad night or else but what unfolded in the restaurant's kitchen during our visit is more of a nightmare, it was a total lack of love for food and cooking. Here our report the experience and it's defenetly far from the suggested goodness celebrated in many guides. First start with the good points, service is great , the waiter was very nice trough all the meal and went the extra mile being very professional. The starters were nicely presented and diverse but all tasted quite vinegary ending up to flatten the diversity of ingredients used. Soup I've ordered a typical coriander soup with a poached egg and it came up to be a watery bright green soup with an hard as rock over cooked egg. My daughter ordered a tomato soup that ended up to be a too salty. Mains wise, I've ordered pork with calms that came to be super dry chunks of pork meat of actually good quality meat, floating in alcoholic broth as the chef didn't wait enough time to make the alcohol to evaporate, the clams were mostly still closed and uncooked, probably one of the worst dishes I have ever eaten in a restaurant as it demonstrated a total negligence by the chef. My wife ordered saffron rice with prawns and sea food, it came to be an overcooked blob, where the rice grains exploded, more similar to a porridge. My daughter ordered a grilled sole, that she refused to eat as it was chared burned and dry. The sides were acceptable. We also orders a bottle of white wine that was fine and one bottle of water and one freshly squeezed orange juice glass. Price wise this restaurant is quite on the expensive side, you supposedly pay for the linen and the nice service and a flared...
Read moreWe reserved a table for two, a day beforehand, and once we got there, at 12h30pm, the table assigned to us was in a passageway, with the entrance air current on our back, and next to the service counter. We did ask the waiter for a better table, but the one who received us wasn’t very nice. However, it was holiday season, so we understand if the place was full, given that Fialho is one of the best restaurants in Evora.
Once we started ordering some of the house specialties, namely, the cheese, pastéis de massa tenra and the arroz de garupa, the second waiter who waited us, was very kind and attentive.
The food was all absolutely delicious and the price was quite fair, given the high gastronomic quality, and also the table cutlery and table cloths, which were all impeccable.
If we had been assigned a better table, and had been received in a more hospitable way, I would have definitely rated this restaurant...
Read moreVisited with my son. The ambience is great - classy and sophisticated. The food was fine, not extraordinary at all. However, the service was extremely disappointing. The waiters were extremely curt and almost reluctant to serve. I ordered a glass of the house wine, and he poured out the last half a glass from the open bottle. Did not even bother to apologise or offer another glass from a new bottle. We asked for some butter for the bread even the butter was charged for separately. It may as well have been a vending machine and not a restaurant with a service orientation. Thank you for your response. In my experience of 50 years visiting restaurants not just in my country but also restaurants in your country and other countries, I have never been charged for...
