A Serendipitous Discovery in Evora
Sometimes, the best discoveries are the ones you don't plan for. Taska da Fina was one such delightful surprise. My original lunch spot was unexpectedly closed, leading me to wander down a side street where I stumbled upon this charming Portuguese eatery.
The ambiance is quintessentially Portuguese, with long tables and TVs showcasing news and sports. The staff embodies the warmth and attentiveness that Portugal is known for.
The menu, while not extensive, offers a selection of authentic dishes. The star of my meal was the "Migas a Alentejano," a flavorful side dish with grilled pork that I had never tried before. It was simply delicious, especially when paired with the fresh salad.
Prior to that, I enjoyed the traditional starters of bread (the famous pão de Alentejo), olive oil, and olives. The bread, served in a rustic fabric bag, was a highlight in itself – its aroma evoked images of sun-drenched fields.
To complement the meal, I opted for the house white wine, which was a perfect accompaniment. Freshly filtered water was readily available, and I concluded my lunch with a coffee and a Beirao liqueur.
Taska da Fina may not have been my first choice, but it certainly left a lasting impression. If you find yourself in Evora and crave an authentic Portuguese experience, I highly recommend giving this unassuming gem a try. You might just discover your new favorite...
Read moreI am giving this a five star rating but I am comparing it to other small family-run restaurants. This is not a 5-star hotel or dining experience in the sense of a five-star posh category. However having said that in rating it as a family-run small establishment, the service and character of the restaurant were five star quality in our opinion. The meal and service were very good and personable. We felt like we were at someone's home. They spoke English well and were able to help us with the menu. This is a small family run restaurant with simple decor, very friendly service, fresh food & good house wine with generous pours. For dinner we shared a meal, along with a starter with bread, & salad, which was more than enough food. After two glasses of wine & a 7up, our bill with tip...
Read moreExcellent place to get great, local food! We had migas for the first time and they're made with bread, garlic, oil and coentros. I hate coentros, but the migas were very good! I didn't taste the coentros at all. Hubby and I split the /half dose of the "Peito de Frango a Taska" and it was delicious! There were 2 pieces of juicy chicken with thin cut french fries and white rice with peas and carrots along with their sauce which was a homemade creamy, mustard sauce. Hubby also had the cogumelos (mushrooms) with garlic and oil and he said they were really good and hearty. The ambiance is very cozy and the staff are knowledgeable and very nice. We spent 40.75€ for a bottle of wine, an entree, and a side....
