Dom Dinis — Restaurant in Albufeira

Very friendly service. We ate early but as more customers arrived their service seemed to take priority over ours. We were left with without any offers to refresh our drinks etc. There were six eating in our party, starters were reasonable if a bit stingy on portion sizes. Mains were a mixed bunch. The Lamb was highly recommended, with two similar dishes also enjoyed. The steak on the other hand was pointless. Two opted for the Sirloin, one medium, one medium rare, Both arrived well done. The medium rare was replaced immediately without question for a fresh steak but steak almost blue. None of this cooking really mattered, both steaks were so heavily salted we might as well have just poured salt from the salt cellar on our plates (this from someone who loves salt). I think it was to mask the fact that they were just terrible quality steak, thin and completely lacking in any flavour (except salt) at all. We booked on the strength of the previous reviews, maybe it was just an off night or maybe many who have reviewed 5 star are just regulars and or have low standards. It wasn't all terrible but definitely not 5...

Reservations at 1930h and seated right away. Wine served fairly soon and that was fine. Food tasted good but do NOT say to the head waiter, “Foi muito bom,” or he will loudly mock in English to the entire group of diners outside (several times), “I know, I know, I know.” Then go to the register and start announcing to the other side of the patio, “I know, I know, I know.” Best just to eat in silence rather than being embarrassed. Finished our meals at 2035h and asked for two cafes com leite. By 2100h I asked again for two cafes com leite and a conta. 2130h we got the cafes and asked again for a conta. Finally, at 22:06:13 I went to a waitress and said I was ready to pay and showed her my debit card. She had the conta and I paid but make sure that you grab the candies off the tray with the conta because if you don’t she turns and walks away with them. Again, food was good, service, well....... We arrived around 6 pm, we were the first ones there, the people started walking in around 7:15, people eat out much later here in Europe, we, being from Canada. We were greeted fine, no issues. I ordered an appetizer with bread and garlic mayo with prawns, that was the most disappointing of the whole meal... don't bother, it's basically cold slices of baguette with mayo and cold tinny pieces of shrimp on top. Grilled at least would have presented and tasted much better. We also ordered each a grill fish and that was delicious. We were poured a half glass of water out of a glass jug, so not bottled water and charged €2:50 not sure if this is common. We are here for another 3 weeks but I don't believe that we will be back. Too many other places to try and this one was a little underwhelming after hearing so much...
