Best meal I had on my trip to Portugal! If you like seafood and you had to try one meal in Portugal it has to be the "Polvo à lagareiro" and it has to be from this restaurant. I (/my family) tried it in a couple other locations but this was hands down the best.
I went here twice on a 10 day vacation. Only happened to stumble across this place because I had a 24hr transport pass when staying in lisbon (which included the ferry between cais do sodre and cacilhas) and just hopped on for fun.
The food is amazing and the service was even better. The first time I went was during the weekday for lunch and the second time (my last meal in Portugal) was on a Saturday night). It looks like they do get more busy at night and there might be a slight wait due to current restrictions limiting capacity but it's totally worth it. I may have got lucky as I didn't have to wait both times. It appears to be family run and my server Tatiana (I believe that was her name) was really friendly and her customer service was incredible - coming from someone who's worked in the service industry all my life. She gave me recommendations on places to visit and things to try. She also mentioned she's also a baker, so definitely do try out the desserts. I only got to try one item - "Doce a casa" as I didn't have time on the 2nd visit but it was great!
Wish them all the best! And I can't wait to...

Whilst on holiday in Lisbon, we decided to cross ten minutes ferry on Tagus (Tejo) river from Cais de Sodre to Almada. In order to get the ticket, it is advisable to get it through the ticket master window rather than challenging yourself to buy it from the machine.
Looking for a fresh red snapper in Casillas, we ended up at an unforeseen little restaurant which was very clean, cool and the ambience was like home. This was a lovely family run restaurant.
We got a warm welcome from the owner, friendly lady and she took time to explain to us the menus as we did not understand Spanish well.
We got what we were looking for and amazingly, the fish was grilled on charcoal served with salad and lime which gave a nice fresh smell, taste was delightful and the servings were big.
Recommend fresh fish when in Lisbon, Portugal and Casillas is the best place to be. High quality food with reasonable prices. Our evening at Cova Funda was one of the highlights of our trip to Lisbon….Thank you so very much! R. Essa,...
Read moreIncredible seafood!! We were recommended to this place by a local and it did not disappoint! Authentic Portuguese appetizers and dishes. We had the soup of the day and some olives while we enjoyed the atmosphere of the praça while having wine and beer. We ordered the clam, octopus (polvo) and grouper. I cannot say enough good things about how flavorful. All the staff were so friendly even though we were not from the area and Tatiana was extremely friendly and attentive. I believe it is a family owned business because I heard her telling another table that they get many of the ingredients from her grandmothers garden! Best seafood I have ever had across the US, UAE and Europe. THERE IS ANOTHER COVA FUNDA IN LISBON SO BE CAUTIOUS YOU WHEN YOU ARE SEARCHING! I believe many of these bad reviews are about the other one,...
