Read moreOmg so bomb! Went twice during my trip. Once for takeout.
Family friendly vibe with lots of locals. They were so nice, they refrigerated and heated up some baby food for these adorable twins who were out with their parents.
Best espatada restaurant I had. Order 1 stick to share for two people! When I first went I ordered two sticks (one per person), which was a crazy amount lol. I thought we had finished our meal after the first, when the second came out. We packed away the second stick and had it for lunch. SO GOOD the next day. So good that I came back to order takeout again. Even better this time cause I asked for extra butter.
Side note: The best espatada (em pau de louro) I had on the island was from a stall at a local fair (not a restaurant unfortunately...just some locals servin it upppp). IDK how to find such a thing again but fingers crossed.
Though no one else was ordering it, the chicken was also so flavorful. Better than Calheta Green's! But do eat this at the table, it's not as good the next day.
I really love the pao (garlic bread). Best milho fritos (fried corn cubes) I had on the island, but the pao outshone.
Poncha is strong a f. Loved it. Got tipsy after just one. Everyone was ordering Sangria but I never got around to it. Next time...
Read moreI can´t remember the last time when I had such a soft delicious meat like Espatada in O Polar. Unfortunately one peace was not cooked at all, but It can happen anytime. The poncha? Out of this world. It was probably the best poncha I have had in Madeira so far. However, I would not rave so much about chicken – It was just an average grilled chicken that you can find anywhere else. Prices went up significantly in comparison with reviews from the last year. Espatada costs 14.50 EUR now, all side meals are more expensive as well. For your info, we had one espatada, one half grill chicken, 1 small salad, 1 small fries, big garlic bread, 1 poncha and 1 water and paid 33 EUR. Small side meals aren´t really that small - 2 small side dishes are pretty ok for 2 people especially with garlic bread as an appetizer. Personally I would be happy with one espatada divided between 2 peope which is 5 peaces of meat for each person. Our waiter did not speak english very well which was a little bit inconvenient as we needed an advice...
