Paladar Da Guia — Restaurant in Cascais

We arrived at 9PM on a Monday…

There were 5 waiters inside of the restaurant talking about random things extremely loud and that had apparently nothing better to do.

The manager arrived at around 9:45PM, just sat at one of the tables, as she was in her living room, and started talking with the other 5 waiters and being on her phone.

The breads served as couvert were not fresh, the olives had so much salt and garlic that we could not eat.

On the menu there were two different dishes: One smoked meat and the other called “Portuguese Steak”. The waiter did not know the difference between them. Furthermore she said: The smoked one you have to move to a table with a chimney…

So, we chose for the “Portuguese Steak”. The meat was tasteless, it was completely raw inside and it was not made on the grill… It seemed to have been done in boiling water…

There were some bacon on the top of the meat completely raw and some chips straight out of the package… In addition, the sauce was extremely salty…

At 10PM we still had half bottle of wine to go and we were offered coffee… When I said I did not want coffee, the bill was brought to the table even me never asking for it… The waiters started to get really lousy and in a rush to close, being rude and taking the bottle of wine out of our hands, so they could poor more in the glasses. The place was open until 11PM according to their own opening times, so we still had one hour to go if we wanted to.

I will never go back to this place and I do not recommend it to anyone… I will spread my words as much as I can… I visit Portugal frequently and this is the worst restaurant I’ve even been in the whole...

We arrived Sunday lunchtime without a reservation so expected a busy restaurant with the possibilities of no tables. At the entrance there is no Maître D so you have to catch the eye of one of the waitrons milling around the Bar/Kitchen no easy task , eventually a blond women with huge attitude told us we would have to sit in the sun and promptly left before we could answer , so we went outside located a table found her and asked permission to sit, somewhat reluctantly she agreed, as she was setting up we asked if it was possible to get a beer she sneered that its busy we have to wait. After quite a while a very pleasant waiter arrived and we decided to give the drinks and food order, we shared a cod fish stew for two the portion was small but excellent with a bottle of Rose it was lovely and the setting wonderful. While waiting the blond ogre had a fight beside our table with one of her colleagues and we witnessed her rudeness to a hapless couple who asked for a table. We asked our waiter if we could add the tip to the bill and pay by card and he said rather cash as they don’t get the tips otherwise. All in all the food and the waiter saved the day but you don’t feel the “Love” in this establishment, crazy when you think they were probably closed for months during the pandemic and should be happy they are busy and it’s really not too much to ask for you to be pleasant to...

Absolut tourist trap, avoid it at all costs!! As soon as we were identified as tourists (speaking english) the service was over. No waiter/waitress paid any attention to us anymore. Seeing new guests arriving and their tables being extra cleaned, we were wondering, why our table was not cleaned up on arrival. We had to ask for drinks serveral times till we got served. After asking for the bill, we waited 15 minutes while seeing that serveral other tables finished their meal and paid (by card btw.) After finally receiving the bill, we had to wait another 10 mins, till we went to the bar to get the payment over with. At the bar, no payment by card was possible. After handing over the payment in cash (I was expecting change), the waitress just left the restaurant with our money and the receipt. After asking another bartender about my change, he immediately gave us the exact amount of change (without knowing what we had to pay or should have received as change). They tried to scam us in such an obvious way, it was just a horrible experience! One star is only for the very beautiful...
