Perched atop the luxurious Savoy Palace, the Galaxy Sky Bar offers breathtaking panoramic views of the mountain and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean. The ambiance is nothing short of romantic, with a modern and elegant decor that sets the perfect mood for an unforgettable evening. The staff, attentive and courteous, ensures every moment is special.
Our friendly waiter not only indulged my attempts at Portuguese but also went above and beyond by presenting my daughter with a mocktail menu and a secret kids' menu, making her feel included and valued.
The culinary journey began with a complimentary amuse-bouche, a delightful tumbler of warm, salty cornmeal with egg and bacon, served on a sensory bowl of smoking wood and greens—a testament to the restaurant's creativity and attention to detail. We shared an order of sourdough bread with fermented butter, salt, and extra virgin olive oil from mainland Portugal, a simple yet delicious start.
The Wagyu and Tuna appetizers were a highlight, with the Wagyu being thinly sliced and served rare, accompanied by a cornmeal and shallot garnish. Although slightly chewy, it was an interesting take on the traditional preparation. The Tuna, on the other hand, was flawless, enhanced with a ponzu sauce and beautifully plated with an edible hibiscus flower and an egg yolk topping, creating a harmonious blend of flavors with the fermented raddish side.
My daughter's cheese plate featured an exquisite selection of goat, sheep, and St. George cheese, complemented by a fancy jam and chestnut topping that added a delightful sweetness to the toasted bread.
For my main course, the squid was a revelation, served with a creamy squid puree and an infused squid ink sauce—a unique and delicious twist on the classic Portuguese dish. My wife's aged steak, accompanied by a king oyster mushroom and a side of rice and beans, was tender and flavorful, surpassing the texture of the Wagyu.
The dessert was the crowning glory of our meal, with the pumpkin cottage cheese cake and the tangerine mousse leaving us in awe of their incredible taste and presentation.
Galaxy Sky Bar is not just a restaurant; it's an experience. From the stunning views to the innovative cuisine and impeccable service, every aspect of our visit was memorable. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in fine dining with a...
Read moreWe went here tonight and had a wonderful evening. But there was room for a few improvements
Food: We got the tasting menu, and the majority of the dishes were excellent. We really loved the seafood servings, but the meat heavy dishes late in the evening was a bit much. The desert was absolutely amazing and very well presented. Overall, we loved the focus on local food with a fine dinning twist
Wine: We got the wine paring, and it was one of the best we have tried, even from 1 and 2 star restaurants. Lots of local wine that matched the dishes very well. You do only get a small amount of each, but since you get a glass per dish, it was plenty unless you plan on getting super drunk.
Service: The waiters were knowledgeable and clearly knew the menu well. You don't get the same level of attention and precision as you get on a stared restaurant. Towards the end, the time between dishes did increase, and the wait was a bit long sometimes. The somalie was very good. We asked a number of question about the wins and the way they were produced, and he was able to answer and was clearly passionate about the wins her served.
Atmosphere: Not must to say but amazing. The room was uniquely decorated and matched the space theme in a nice and subtle way without becoming too gimmicky. The view was amazing, and seeing the city and the mountains change from day no night over the course of the dinner was amazing. Best view in town.
Honestly, I feel like this place could push for its first star if they wished. At least they deserved a...
Read more⭐ 1-Star Review – Disrespectful Experience at One of Funchal’s Supposed Best Restaurants
If you’re looking for fine dining in Funchal with a welcoming atmosphere — look elsewhere. We had a confirmed reservation at Galáxia Skyfood, one of Madeira’s most talked-about restaurants, but were rudely turned away at the door.
I arrived in smart, clean attire (white tee and beige trousers), perfectly acceptable for most high-end restaurants in Madeira. But the staff took one look at us and decided we didn’t belong — no explanation, no flexibility, just cold dismissal.
We were left standing there, completely embarrassed, despite having booked in advance. It felt like we were being judged purely for being younger guests. Meanwhile, other diners inside were dressed more casually or sloppily, yet clearly fit their “accepted” profile. An older gentleman in front of us wearing shorts!
This was hands down the worst dining experience in Funchal, and we didn’t even get to eat. If Galáxia Skyfood wants to compete with the best restaurants in Madeira, it needs a serious attitude check.
Most people here in Funchal are vacating they do not come prepared for full suit attire to attend dinner, it’s the summer!
Avoid Galáxia Skyfood if you value hospitality, respect, or simply being treated like a paying guest. Young diners — prepare to be judged.
Honestly, if your over 70 enjoy if not just find somewhere else this is the realist...
