The service is not as good as I first thought, I loved the fact that they used utensils to set the napkins on the table.
But when I went to the bar to pay and complain about the lack of meat in the steak sandwich (which also uses the smallest bread bun on the island), the waiter who served us came and took away the evidence (the plate from the table with the untouched sandwich), behind my back, while I was waiting at the bar.
This revolting and even nauseating gesture convinced me to just pay and leave.
The steak sandwich with salad is not the same as in other places on Madeira.
You get a spoonful of salad, you get the small bread bun and a very small and thin piece of meat that doesn't cover less than half of the surface of the bread.
All that goodness for 6.90 euros.
While for a lower price, you get some real good food in places like Mara (Paul do mar), Lavrador or a few random places we stopped in around Funchal or other parts...
Read moreIt's a good location. That's about where the charms end. There was a long wait to take orders, a long wait to be served drinks, a long wait to be served food. A long wait for the bill. The food was covered in olive oil. To the point I thought the chicken in the chicken pasta may have been drowned in the oil. The caprese salad more closely resembled the deep water horizon than anything they would serve in Capri. The Madeiran bread with garlic butter was more toast without butter. The scabbard fish was flavourless as was the Portuguese rice. Perhaps the staff would be able to respond faster if they didn't insist on pouring your water for you without being asked to. It's possibly the only place I have ever been that insists that cocktail sauce is the best thing to use on a pizza over tomato. If you are in the area and feel like eating I recommend going elsewhere or waiting till you have gone down the cable car. Not to mention the...
Read moreI liked the dishes with espada with banana, squids, and the pork, it had some nice original twist on traditional dishes, these wre delicious. The bacalhau com broa wasnt great, didnt taste good (I had a lot better in some other traditional places) and it was a bit unispiring; if there would be something garnishing it, or something more to it. The juice of passion fruit was too expensive for non freshly made passion fruit juice, it clearly had a taste of cheap cooked passion fruit that you buy in the supermarket. This is something it must be improved, if I pay close to 4 euros for a juice, I would like to have something based in the real fruit and not in a canned passion fruit based juice... The worst pressed passion fruit juice I got in Madeira. The staff were amazing friendly and the nice balcony is great to enjoy the view while drinking a cup of...
