Very slow and clumsy staff, food was good.

When we entered the restaurant (which is inside the hotel, so you have to go to the reception first to ask the way), we waited 5 minutes before someone showed us where we could sit. After we finally sat down, we ordered our drinks and food. So far, so 'good'. More then 30 minutes after we ordered, we still hadn't got our starter yet! At the point where we wanted to ask what was going on, they showed up with our main dish!? We said that we haven't got our starter, and they quickly brought our starter. When finished the first course, 3 sec. later they brought our main course (probably the same dish but heated up in the meantime). Didn't order a dessert because we didn't want to wait a long time again. When we asked for the bill, we had to wait for another 5-10 minutes... very annoying.

Service was just bad, staff hardly spoke any English. All the waiter could say was "obrigado". Food was good, but not special.

No recommendations ofcourse, unless you want to wait a lot, and...

This restaurant is on another level, and what surprised me most was the value for the quality offered. After spending 10 days in Madeira, dining out every night, and trying the beef espetada at least four different places, I can confidently say that the espetada here is exceptional. The flavor is splendid, and the meat is incredibly tender. It also comes with a variety of sides, which is amazing for the price. The tuna, served with a typical tomato sauce and rustic vegetables, was simply irresistible. Let's mention about the dessert the passion fruit creme brulle and the chocolate fondant were incredible presentation and taste amazing. almost forgot to mention the astonishing view! Paladar is a must-try when...

The best I can say is this place is disappointing. The steak wasn't too bad but they really don't seem to know how to cook seafood dishes here. There was fish soup and vegetable soup on the menu. Fish soup is my favourite starter so I was disappointed to be served vegetable soup with bits of fish in it. The linguine was the same, the prawns were good in terms of freshness, taste and texture but the taste hadn't reached the sauce, let alone the linguine. We didn't bother with a third course.

The staff were not unfriendly but seemed really busy, despite the dining room being less than half full. We asked 3 members of staff for the bill but waited at least 30 minutes with empty glasses for...
