Restaurante Casa da Sogra in Barreiros, Funchal, is a hidden gem that has quickly become one of my favourite dining spots on the island. Every visit to this cosy and welcoming establishment is an experience to remember, thanks in no small part to the impeccable service and outstanding cuisine.
The moment you step inside, you are greeted by the warm ambience that instantly makes you feel at home. The decor is charming, with just the right balance of traditional and contemporary touches, creating a comfortable atmosphere perfect for a leisurely meal with family or friends.
The star of the show, however, is undoubtedly the food. Whether you're a lover of meat or fish, Restaurante Casa da Sogra never disappoints. Every dish I've had the pleasure of tasting here has been nothing short of fantastic. The freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite, and the flavours are simply exquisite. Whether I'm in the mood for a succulent meat dish or a perfectly cooked fish plate, I know I can trust the kitchen to deliver something truly special.
This level of culinary excellence is a testament to the skill and passion of Chef Manuel, who clearly puts his heart into every dish he prepares. His dedication to using only the finest ingredients and his keen attention to detail elevate the dining experience to new heights. It's rare to find a chef who consistently delivers such high quality, but Chef Manuel does it with ease. Every time I dine here, I find myself savouring each bite, appreciating the care and expertise that goes into every meal.
The service at Restaurante Casa da Sogra is equally impressive. Miss Barbara, the waitress who has served me on multiple occasions, is the epitome of professionalism. Her friendly demeanour and attentive service make every visit even more enjoyable. She is always ready with a smile, ensuring that everything is just right and that her customers feel well taken care of. It's clear that she takes pride in her work, and her dedication to providing top-notch service is greatly appreciated.
In short, I can not recommend Restaurante Casa da Sogra highly enough. It’s not just a place to eat; it's a place where you feel like part of the family. The combination of outstanding food, warm hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit whenever you’re in Funchal. Whether you're a local or just visiting, do yourself a favour and experience the culinary delight that is Restaurante Casa da Sogra. You won’t be...
Read moreIt's rare I eat at the same restaurant twice on holiday but with it having a relaxed atmosphere, fresh seafood and 2 minutes walk from our accommodation it was hard to say no.
Despite being open from 12, we had to wait a little for staff to turn up, but this was no problem. we were invited to sit and chill with a drink .
The first time round, we had fresh bread saturated in garlic for starters. To accompany this, we had a tri colour, melon, and parmaham .
For mains, I tried the scabbard fish while my mum tried the sea bass with prawns and musscles. Everything tasted fresh, especially with a recommended green wine . The service was warm throughout with the owner sharing his life, especially when I asked about the cat pictures.
We returned a few nights later for a "snack " of more delicious bread, clams in white wine, and giant spicy prawns. For dessert, we snaffled a red berry cheese cake.
Overall, it is a nice welcoming restaurant with fair prices and fresh...
Read moreVery Cody restaurant with a superb menu. Family business at its best. Father and mother work the kitchen, the daughter and staff the front room. Menu is relatively small but for me that represent a good restaurant as the focus is on a small array of perfectly preferred dishes. I recommend the „portions“ the Portuguese equivalent of tapas. Very tasty and 4 different ones for two people make a perfect dinner. Accompany with Pao the traditional garlic bread. Heaven. You also have to try the Espada. Fish at its best. But the most enticing about this restaurant is not the superb food but the very friendly and accommodating staff. We felt as if we were eating with friends rather than at a restaurant. Subsequently we went there several times during our two weeks stay at Funchal and we were never disappointed. Thanks to all of the staff and owners of Casa da Sogra for making our vacation even...
