We’ve eaten here three times now, the most recent being last night. We found the service to be excellent, the waitresses and waiter were very friendly, helpful and attentive.
Our children are gluten intolerant and the chef prepared a suitable meal for them. My wife and I had prawns with black garlic risotto to start which was tasty and perfectly cooked. For mains I had the chefs suggestion of a crusted stone bass fillet, it was well cooked, with a good balance of flavour, the veg was aldente giving some more texture and was flavoursome and the sauce had a subtle chilli heat to it. My wife has the seafood black linguini, the fish was all cooked perfectly along with the pasta, her only comment was that it was a little dry, but the taste was excellent and we both left clear plates. We followed on with two deserts between the four of us and a coffee. Total cost was a little over €150 which we felt was very good value.
Next time we’re in Carvoiero we’ll be back, and would recommend Black Salt.
Lastly, a recent review has commented on the decor. I can only put it down to personal preference, but our opinion is it’s been done tastefully, and the whole place including the toilets were immaculately clean and well...
Read moreWhile definitely on the pricey side of the spectrum, Black Salt is an establishment worth the visit. The interior decor makes for a cosy yet sophisticated atmosphere, further emphasised with the lounge/jazzy music that plays in the background. Regarding the food, the portions were average-sized for restaurant standards; Black Salt offers both meat and fish based dishes, each having their specificities, along with vegetarian options (There even is a kid's menu, for those travelling with family !), which are all viable and delicious possibilities (although I would personally opt for the fish). Finally, for desserts, I would either recommend the chocolate mousse, made with Porto, spices, and smidgeons of orange, or the lime-toffee cheesecake, which...
Read moreWe’re visiting from Canada and were excited to try Black Salt, given all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations.
While the goat cheese salad was delicious and the drink servers were friendly and attentive, the overall service was disappointing. The head waiter was the only one allowed to take food orders, which caused significant delays, and his attitude throughout the evening was noticeably rude and impatient.
In addition to this, we were charged €12 for two orders of bread (€6x2). When I raised the issue saying we had only gotten one order of bread, the waiter curtly insisted that since we were two people, we received two rolls and two scoops of butter, counting as two portions - which felt like a flimsy justification.
There are plenty of excellent restaurants in Carvoeiro, but unfortunately, I would not...
