Restaurante The Square Pizza & Pasta — Restaurant in Lagoa

I’m not normally one to give bad reviews, and neither have I ever got up and left a restaurant before the food came, but this is an exception! We arrived for lunch at 12:30 and were seated and given menus and then ordered drinks and the food. The first thing that struck us as odd was the “Coke zero” my wife ordered was 100% not as advertised and tasted of cheap cola, and it came out already poured which backs up that argument. I had ordered bread and olive tapenade to start and a pizza and my wife garlic bread and pizza which were both straightforward to make. Not so it seems, because 40 minutes later we were still waiting for the starters! Drinks had long been finished, but our waiter didn’t return to the table once since we first ordered and clearly tried to avoid eye contact which is bizarre. Finally, at 13:15 we made the decision to pay for the drinks and leave so my wife went in to pay only to be told the food was on its way, although no apology or explanation was provided for the ridiculous wait. Anyway, after the waiter got confused adding up the cost of the two drinks, we paid up and left. Before this though, another table that had ordered just after us were also getting fed up with the wait and joked that the restaurant was waiting for the food to be delivered from the supermarket up the road. This, of course, sounds ridiculous but without a doubt there was no cooking smell at all coming from the kitchen so probably not as ridiculous as it sounds. One further thing is that all of the good reviews of this restaurant on Google are not actually for this restaurant at all because they are for the previous restaurant with a totally different owner and just called “The Square”. Indeed, this restaurant only opened in July 2025 so...

The Square has now changed to provide a 'taster' menu. You can choose from 3, 5 or 7 taster options. They do not tell you what you having until it ilarrives at your table but do discuss dietary and allergy requirements beforehand. They do provide a choice of wines or you can go with the option to provide a suitable small wine with each option.

5 taster consists of bread to start then 2 starters, 2 mains and a destert. 7 taster option is bread to start followed by 4 starters, 2 mains and a dessert.

We went for the 5 option with their wines choice per taster. The food extremely nice and very flavourful, and wine choices were also very nice and complimented the food well.

This is not a low cost option and not something we would normally go for, however it was a birthday meal.

The food was excellent, the prices for how good this food is and the way it is presented is great value, anywhere in the UK that would be top top money to eat there. and we would of been like "nope" it was also our first year anniversary and thaught, to hell with it, let's splash out a wee bit on holiday. Splash out we did. House selection, two starters + mains + three deserts, had to try all three deserts, only because the starters and mains were such high quality and just looked amazing, plus the flavours through all of these dishes we had were just devine. They litterally all made sense, taste wise, all hit the nail on the head on a sensory note. We were like, yep we are going to get all three deserts cuz they will be so epic. And they were.
