In short, the food was excellent, but the service was not good. The gentleman that I assume was the owner was very friendly, spoke English, and had me sit outside since the tables inside had prior reservations. I ordered the lamb chops and a glass of white wine. The gentleman came out with several appetizer trays with cheese, olives, pickled carrots, other things which he said were all excellent traditional Portuguese dishes. And they all tasted great. What he didn't tell me is that many of those were not included in what I ordered, that they would charge me extra for those. After my meal I ordered a coffee and he came out with a coffee and a small glass of porto which I didn't order. When the bill came I was surprised by the charges for things I did not order. He did not ask me for permission to add charges to my bill, he just brought out the items without asking me and I assumed they were part of the meal. I ordered only the lamb chops, the glass of wine, and the coffee. The bill included 4 other items that I never ordered but had to pay for. A customer should never be surprised like this and forced to pay items they don't order. In the picture I uploaded I've circled the items at the top that I did not order but which cost me an additional 11.20 euro. The food tasted great, but I will not return.

Wow!! We visited Adega Dom Luis on a Friday night, with no reservation. Despite this, the owner welcomed us with a fantastic smile and made literally our night! At arrival, we were kindly offered a glass of white wine! 🥂 This was really nice of them and we greatly appreciated! We proceeded with ordering food - we had the grilled prawns, which were fantastic! So big and tasty, a dream! We also had the mussels, which were served in a buttery tomato sauce with chunky pieces of onion. Dipping the bread inside all the sauce was sooooo amazing 😍. We finally ordered the octopus dish which arrived in a lovely extra virgin olive oil sauce and tasty potatoes. Food was incredible & portions huge - we didn't manage to finish everything but definitely left with our belly full & a wonderful smile on our face! A special thanks to the owner, who treated us with such kindness, made us feel special and took the time to talk to us and explain all the recipes with such passion! Please, visit this restaurant if you are in Lisbon. It will be a fantastic experience!

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, after a very unpleasant experience at the nearby and flashier Boubous -- so unpleasant we left before ordering (you can see the review there!). I was wearing high heels over cobblestones at 8:30 pm and Adega Dom Luis looked unpretentious, humble, and its menu seemed to cater mostly to the local Portuguese. We took a chance and are so glad we did: the restaurant is run by a husband and wife who serve authentic, homecooked Portuguese cuisine. The owner could not have been more welcoming to two strays. We left the ordering to him, including the wine, and ended up having a spectacular meal that cost us only 60 Euros. Highly recommend Adega Dom Luis for fresh seasonal local cuisine made from the finest ingredients (including beef imported from Uruguay). The Portuguese red he served to go with everything was delicious. We came out way ahead. I agree with another reviewer that this is the most authentic (and delicious) meal we enjoyed in Lisbon.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Decided to try this place following the good reviews on Google...big mistake of our very first day in Lisbon. The waiter/owner of the place fakes a friendliness to try to charge you everything he can. We sat down and he brought us some bread, olives, carrots and some tuna pate: we kindly accepted the bread, but refused the rest, knowing they charge a lot for those. He took it away already huffing and puffing. When we decided to order, he basically imposed us to order at least two plates, or he would charge us the "cover charge" of the beginning.

We ended up ordering some fried cuttlefish and Squid lagareiro, only to find out portions were much more than we wanted to actually eat and to our disappointment not even worth it: squid was tasteless and chewy, prawns inedible and smelt horrible, cuttlefish resembled kid's fish fingers. When I asked the man to check the prawns' smell, he said it was totally normal (sí hombre, que nosotras de Granada y Huelva no tenemos idea de pescado...). The owner kept checking on us and wondering why we didn't eat everything, claiming his restaurant was not for "tourists who wanted snacks" but to eat real Portuguese food. I then asked if it was possible for clients to order and eat what they wanted without having to be shamed like children 😂. I also asked if he had problems with us, as his attitude was poorly, to which he answered he was mad at someone in the kitchen and went on a rant about it.

For 2 beers, 2 cod croquettes and the two plates we ended up paying (in cash) around 35€.

The experience left us with a really bad taste (quite literally) of what Lisbon is on our first day in the city. If the owner dislikes tourists so much, he should...

Cash only restaurant. Nice fresh fish, decent overall experience. I'm an experienced gourmet and have visited many restaurants in my life. I visited with my 14 year old son. The owner who served us wasn't really helpful I'm afraid to say. He filled the tables with a lot of sides, and when I asked if they were complimentary, he said no. I then asked him to remove them which he didn't until later. I asked what kind of wines they had on glass, but didn't get a proper answer or any alternatives, he was more interested in serving whatever he felt like. My son wanted a file of fish, and pointed on it on a picture. When the food came, it was a fish full of bones and he unfortunately lost his appetite (he normally eats fish). My grilled fish cutlet - although expensive, held high quality. When the tab came, the sides were still on it and I had to tell them to remove it. The restaurant needs to work on its approach and have better menu's, including the wines. When I asked for what wine I was given, I first didn't get a reply, but when I asked again he was annoyed and went to fetch the boxed wine...
